Carb question

I just bought my second 1st gen rx-7, its a 83 GSL with 120,000 miles on it, it had been sitting for 11 years and the carb was pretty gunked up, it would just constantly drip gas down the secondaries. I took it off and had it rebuilt by a so called reputable mechanic, I put it back on and still the same problem. Was it the mechanic not doing a good job or is it somethin common with these carbs. I dont know alot about them and wouldnt want to take the risk of doin it myself. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.

where abouts are you in waxhaw? i live in charlotte (mathews area). i can probably help you. i have been thru almost every nikki problem in the book. hahahaha, and i have rebuilt a few. if you ever come to the charlotte area, i can maybe take a gander. but usually it's a simple fuel issue with the problem you are experiencing. while it's running, (if it stays idle at all) tap on the banjo fittings where the fuel goes down to the floats. NOT HARD, but a good umph. hahaha, see if that clears it up a abit, also check the float level. let me know how far from charlotte you are. peace bro!

Yea help him out Zac. Your "mechanic" probably didnt change the needle valves when he "rebuilt" the carb. Bet he didint adjust/check the float levels either.

Speaking of needle valves, I noticed that the VB rebuild kit doesn't come with them. Yet another reason not to like them (I have a list), but just an observation.

I've got a Nikki coming my way in the next couple of weeks (setting me back like $50, but what can you do?), and I was going to get that rebuild kit...obviously not now. Which kits come with the needle valves? Where do we get them? And how much? And if anyone would rather just give me their old carb, I'll gladly pay for shipping.

Oops, my bad. Geez, I need a vacation. It doesn't have a metering needle, as stated in the catalog. Do you think it's a good kit otherwise then, Carl?

Dont believe everything you read. It does come with them, trust me. Its ok, but I would reuse all the original aluminum and copper seals and save the fiber ones in the BA kit for a rainy day.

Well, I'll go with that. I'm hoping the carb I get still has the aluminum and copper. If not, well, I'll make due with what I get. I just wish I knew more about the guy I'm getting the Nikki from...I hate sending money to someone and not getting anything in return. But, desperate times call for desperate measures.
