carb problems
First of all, welcome to the forum!
Check out the FAQ section at the top of the main page. There will be all sorts of information for you to review. There is also the Archive section, which contains most of the "really informative" threads from over the years.
As to your specific question, have you found the idle set screw yet? Is this your first 7? How long have you owned it? How many miles on it? The more details about the car and yourself that you can provide, the more useful we will be to you.

this is my 3rd, miles unknown due to motor swap. I'm pretty good with r's but i've never had to mess with the carb before. i just got this one and it's been 4 years since i've had one so i'm still brushing up. this one has headers no cat and a hi-flow muffler, 110% over factory clutch and a 50 shot of nos
(no i have not found the idle screw yet)

If you still have the 79's carb on it, there will be two screws on the lefthand side of the carburator. The bigger one with the flat head top is the air (idle speed) adjust. Turn it counterclockwise to raise the idle speed. You may have to re-adjust the mixture screw (the other one with the '+' top) too if you mess with it. Screw it in until the car starts "hunting" and then turn it back out a half turn. If you only have one screw, you have a 81-85 carburator and the idle speed cannot be adjusted (easily). Keep in mind, none of this will affect speeds above idle.
Anyway, if your car is idling below 600 and doesn't haven't any touble maintaining it I'd say you're ahead of the game and you shouldn't mess with it. As far as tuning, there's not very much you can do without making serious modifications. Search,
