Carb or Fuel Injection?

Ok, I know peoples had ask this before and must be one of those common questions. I was searching around the forum for answers but just got some information which was nice but, however; I didn't find a direct asnwer so I am going to ask. Unless I miss it somewere in my search I guess I will need better glasses.

Ok, so I was wondering for a 1981 RX7 that have a Carb would it be best if I convert it to fuel injection?

Would it be best than Carb in performance and maintenance?

How much would it cost for a nice Fuel Injection and maybe round up how much would the labor for something like that cost?

i tell you what. i'm a holley guy, love carbs alot. but i wanna go efi just cause its much better in my oppinion. i've got an 80. just cost wise. you will need a new intake manifold, fuel pump, fuel line, throttle body, injectors (if they don't come with the throttle body), change your linkage, and most of all a computor system to manage it.

so, i would say the price range is just a LOT out of my range. so there's your answer.

efi is better but will cost around 3000 for a proper, excellent setup.

EFI will **** on any archaic old carb setup. It can be done a lot cheaper than $3000US too. This is the price list from www.injectionperfection.com in Aussie $. Many of these parts can be bought cheaper second hand and you can use a fuel only MT-4 which can be had for under $500. You can probably do it for around $2000US if you install it yourself.

01 IDA Throttle Body 50mm -$590.00

01 Malpassi Fuel Pressure Regulator -$160.00

04 Bosch 600cc Injectors -$420.00

01 Bosch Fuel Pump -$295.00

01 Fuel Rail -$100.00

01 TPS -$100.00

01 Cable Clamp -$33.00

01 Fuel Filter -$29.00

01 Pre Filter -$30.00

01 Microtech MT-8 Fuel & Ignition ECU -$1,095.00

01 Microtech Hand Controller -$200.00

TOTAL -$3,052.00

Yes, search for fuel injection carb and user Big Jim. I made a post with quite a few responces that was very informative and pointed out that FI is better if you have alot of money to spend, but for alot less money u can get close to what FI would get you. ill try and dig up the link

fuel injection wont give you much of a performance gain over a good carb setup unless your building an all out race car and need every bit of x-tra power you can get...

but... on a old 12a you wont see much of a difference between the two in the performance area, you will however be missin a few thousand from your bank account!!!!

I'd go with side-drafts. Something from Mikuni. EFI is great, but expensive and has lots of troublesome computers.

yah, im with you on this one... a good sidedraft weber carb kit will really boost your power and it looks way better than the stock carb too!!

also you wont have to spend hours porting the stock intake manifold either!!
you get a nice new hi-performance one!!

yeah, if your stock engine i would go with the 48's. then with that intake you could go with fuel injection when you got the money. if you really wanna do that. but those webers are great for cornering.

Go with a carb, computers are too confusing. What if the whole world gets hit with EMP? will your electronic fuel injection work then? HA!
