I know 84-85 carbs have an extra solenoid or 2 on the passenger side, I think..

Wheres Peejay when ya need him, I know he knows..

79 and 80's have the mixture and idle screw vertically just above one another. And 81-85 have them sortta horizontal a few inches apart..

Sorry man, if I had my digi cam I could take some pics for you...I know that on the 84+ carb, there is a silonoid that looks just like one of the silonoids on the rats nest (the big group of silonoids on top of the engine). It has like a two wire plug on it and a color-coded sticker (maybe, if its still there ). The pre 84 carbs didnt have this silonoid I dont think...Thats about all I can tell you. Like I said, if I had my cam, Id take some pics. I have an 84 and an 83 carb to take pics of to show you...

If I remember right, the choke horn is smaller (=more restrictive at high RPM...) on the 84/85 carb than the '80. Definitely a lot less emissions on the outside, too. I'll take a pic of the '80 and the '84 and post 'em when I get home 'cuz that's just the kinda guy I am...
