what should idle do when i spray around carb go up or down?

Depends what you're spraying!

Carb cleaner will make idle drop if you're spraying it around the carb.

I would swear that idle rises when I hit the leaks. In any case, what you're listening for is a change in idle quality when you spray the area with a leak.
