Sounds like a dead battery if its cranking slow. These engines take a bit of umph to get them to turn over quick...How old is the battery? If its not too old, I would say maybe the car has a short or a slow drain that killing the battery somewhere, assuming its the battery. Get a new battery and try that, have someone jump you and try that, or if all else fails, push start it .

Don't get scared

Buckaroo...

When you're spinning the starter and there's no cranking sound, but the engine is turning, you've flooded the engine. Go get some MMO, Marvel Mystery Oil. Any auto-supply house should have it, we carry it at the Sears Hardware where I work. Take out one plug from each housing. You'll find 'em wet with fuel. squirt some MMO into the plug holes, at least two tablespoons full. Dry off the plugs and put 'em back in. If you've run the battery down you may need a jump start, but keep turning over the engine till you start. Floor the pedal.

Once started it will smoke like crazy, see my avatar. That's Okay, and good for your engine. The MMO is cleaning the rotors and the housings. In a little bit it goes away. Next thing to do is get some new plugs, and a new distributor cap, and rotor. Electrics are important to all cars, but especially to rotories.

A tip of the 'ol Stetson,

Nope....

My '85 SE runs like a bullet, but I wanna tackle the oil cooler hoses, and get the injectors cleaned. blueprinted, and balanced...

The '84 SE just sits at the moment.....It's the one we're tring to sell. We start and run 'er once a week, but otherwise she's just waitin' for a home....

It's probably just a dead battery, kiddo. Nothing to panic over. Get a jump start, if you can -or- put a battery charger on it for a few hours and see what happens.

If it starts up okay after that, but the battery goes dead again after sitting a few days - the battery's probably shot. As to what drains it... a battery with a shorted cell drains itself over a short time.

Also, since you're not actually driving the car yet - just starting it every so often - you gotta let it run long enough to fully recharge the battery each time. Otherwise, you're just adding to the problem.

The battery may have enough current to run the lights, but still, it takes a LOT of current to start a car.

By the way, check the fluid level in the battery and add water or battery acid accordingly, unless you already bought a new battery.
