Car Starts Then Dies

Got a quick question that i hope someone can help me out with.

I've got a 84 RX-7 GSL that i parked in the garage for a while because it started acting weird. The car will start up and run with the choke pulled out but once the motor is warmed up and the choke is off the motor will not hold the RPMs and will die . It's like there isn't an idle. I don't know much when it comes to the 12A Wankel motor, but i was thinking it had something to do with the idle on the carb, or just the whole carb. So if any of you have had this problem and fixed, or know what i need to do to fix please let me know your help is much appreciated.

have you tried adjusting the idle yet? there is an idle adjustment screw by the throttle linkage. get a flashlight. Kind of hard to see. you'll see it from the driver's side of the engine bay. Don't touch the ones on the base of the carb.

Thats not a wankel thing, its a carb thing. Look in the archives for the "using a compression tester in a rotary". More difficult because of the nature of the trianlge.

To me if it runs on choke your compression is fine and it will be a tuning thing of some form.

Does the car start up without any issues when you use the choke? Or does it have a hard time as well? If it doesn't then try pushing in the choke slowly to lower the rpm's. If you can get it to idle around 1000 or so and it doesn't stall then I'd say it's probably an idle adjustment. If it stalls trying to lower the idle then I'd guess that you have a vaccum leak somewhere.

Well depending on how long it sits; there could be a number of issues there. Probably want to take a load test on the battery. How long has the gas been sitting in there? If it been awhile then it should be drained out and then put in some new gas. Fuel filter might need / should be changed. Make sure the gas is up to the halfway point on the 2 glass sites on the carb. Good luck.

Check the bottom of the #2 anti-afterburn hose. The bottom of the hose is close to the manifold and often melts creating a rather large vacuum leak.

well this problem started before it was parked for a while. i was running good for a while and then it started having this problem one day and thats why i parked it but i probabiliy should drain out the gas. what is the best way to do that?

Well depending on how much fuel is in the tank will depend on how you do it. The drain plug I believe is a 14mm it could be a 12mm though. I should know for sure since I just messed with the tank not too long ago but I already forgot. In any case get your self a brand new oil catching container or something then drain it into there. When i did mine I filled my two gas cans for my lawn mower and the two my neighbor had. The rest went in my accord after I realized I could have been putting the perfectly fine 91 octane in my other car and using it. lol what an idiot. Well my lawn mower ran the same as always so nothing too special. Probably be fine to run your fuel in a two stroke like a lawn mower but I wouldn't put it in another car unless you hate the other car. If it's full I don't kow whta you should do. That's a lot of fuel to get rid of. You could just use it to kill weeds or something, or make a really big fire, or take it back to the gas station and say you want your money back.
