Car starts but once the gas pedal is touched

OK, I just got a call from a lady that had a 85 RX 7 with the 12a. I met her when I left walmart and notice she didnt have a rear window. Oppertunity knocked and I had an extra rear window.

Well she told me that her car will start, but when she steps on the gas/pulls the choke the car dies. I told her to check the fuel filter. She said it has been replaced in the last 12 monthes.

Anyone have a voice on what to look for. Yes, I did a search with starts and stalls. Didnt help lol

thanks,
Sean

Mine just recently did that... only once though. My car I think runs a bit rich and I think that's the problem with that car as well.

perhaps she has a very leaky accelerator pump in connection with the fuel filter. if i were her, i would start small and pull the fuel feed line and find out how much gas is getting to te carb. then i would go from there. if i were you, i would offer the lady some cash for the car.

Let's get down to the basics on her car and the parts she needs.

Is she cute?

That effects the price and the service you give her!!

Obviously try the easy stuf, but I fear a carb rebuild. You should be able to watch and see whats going on if you look into the carb.

Isn't the accelerator pump there to shoot a little extra fuel in when the secondaries open?

Nope, its there to supply extra fuel needed when you crack the throttle open from idle. It should squirt as soon as the throttle plate begins to open.

Thanks, I just remember reading in a mech 2ndaries tutorial that you could use a bigger squirt from the accelerator pump. Just adding more gaskets to the pump gave you more fuel. The last time I took apart a carb (long time ago). I could have sworn that the acceleator pump was connected to the 2ndary linkage some how. I probably wont be able to actually see the her car till friday or saturday. Will see, first thing will be a fuel filter change.
