Car running rich out of nowhere + broken water temp connector
Car running rich out of nowhere + broken water temp connector
I swear every time I touch this car I end up fixing 1 thing and causing two issues 🥲
The car was running fine before all of this. Didnt smell too rich or anything. Then one day, My oil pressure gauge stopped working so did some stuff to check if it’s the unit/wire that stopped. Then i broke the water temp sensor in the process but I was able to replace that.
I started the car and forgot the oil sending unit out so almost all the oil spilled out lol. So then I had it temporarily sealed, sat for about a week and did an oil change on it. Started the car, then realized the car running so much richer that I can taste fuel in my throat and it stings my eyes.
today, i finally decided to say f it and do mechanical oil pressure gauge. Got that in but ruined the water sensor.. again. Luckily i had the last spare of it so put that in. As i was trying to take off the broken sensor tip off the wire - connector broke off from the wire. RIP. Got the oil pressure situated though.
Back to the running rich situation, it was at about under 1k rpm with the choke on and normally it wouldve been above that. I am really not sure what would have caused it to run rich all of a sudden 😭 only way it would be at the right rpm’s is pulling my already broken cruise control cable by like 2mm but that still wouldnt technically lean it out..
Two main questions: what are things to check for with it running rich all of a sudden? Is the water temp sensor connector and wire reconnectable and will the choke still pull in with the gauge not working? Just to be clear the actual water temp sensor threaded to the iron isnt broken.
Carb doesnt seem to be clogged in any way but I havent checked the fuel filter.
MANY MANY THANKS! Im trying not to loose my mind and it’s frustrating to have it sit more than being driven 😔

Quick update: i think it's because of my float levels being too high. It looks like it's almost full on the front side at least. To be fair - my partner and his friend did take apart the carb to adjust the floats when i first got the car and it was a bit high and they got it down. Tonight, did the tap on the two bolt trick and the bowls are still full. I'll be taking the carb apart again to recheck the float levels and measure .. just unsure how it would go from drivable to flooding almost overnight
