Water Temp Gague

My temperature gague currently reads nothing. Where is the water temp sensor located? Anyone else have this problem. The car is a 79.

the sender is located under the oil filter pedestal. its one wire with a female bullet connector. the sender is threaded into the rear iron, just ahead of the oil pressure sender

the key here is a 12mm deep well socket with a small 3" or shorter extension. removal of the oil pressure sender first is also very helpful when removing the coolant temp sender.

Could be the stock gauge is bad that is what is the case on my car. Get an aftermarket gauge they're much better than the stock junk ones.

It's easy to get to and remove if you take out a spark plug and oil pressure, and have a deep socket 12 mm with a stubby ratchet as was mentioned.

Once you find the wire it you can go to RadioShack and get some resistors (104 ohm and 21 ohm, or as close as possible) and alligator clip wires to check the gauge. Hook one end of the alligator clip wire to good ground, the other to one side of the resistor. Take another alligator clip wire and connect to the other side of the resistor and the other end to the sender wire. Turn the ignition on and the gauge should move. If gauges move it is the sender, if not check that 3" wide wire plug in the same area for corrosion. If connection is good there, it could be the gauge. There is also a pin on the gauge which actually moves the needle of the gauge; if you've had the gauge pods out it could have become dislodged and would make it appear that the gauge doesn't work.
