car problems :`(

so i know this doesnt sound like a big deal but to me it it. today it was nice n sunny so i went on a drive, i had a lil over a quarter tank maybe more. so i parked the car to help out one of my friends n i left it running. well when i go back i notice now my fuel gauge isnt working, so now i have no idea how much gas i have and im not sure even if i fill it if the gauge will even work. so if u can tell i have a deliema on my hands. what is wrong with my gauge? could it be a fuse. . . not likely but who knows. could it be the sending unit in the tank or something that took a ****? whatever it is i need to know what to do n how to fix it. please help

First of all, did you do a search using the key words. Fuel sender?

Be nice Doc!!!
Ok first of all the sender is known to go out, and second maybe you did run out of gas?

Ither way just get a new fuel sending unit from the parts store!
There problem fixed! Now you just have to put it in!!! LOL Good Luck

I was being nice. We have had many discussions on the subject of doing a search first before you post up. This info is also in the FSM via trochoids link.

And you just don't throw parts at a car hoping it wil be fixed. It's what bad garages do in an attempt to overcome their shitty diagnosis skills.

The most common problem with the senders is corrosion at the terminals.
The sender is a very easy part to test as per the FSM.
Check and clean the terminals on the sender unit and the connector that goes to it first. If there is still a bad reading then check Via FSM on how to.

The point is if you guys keep spoon feeding everyone the answers to everything they will never learn how to get the answers.

LOL. But as you noticed I did not give the whole answer. The most important part of the info is left untold.

um sooo yah, it was low on gas n i have come to the conclusion that when it is around a quarter tankish it will just go down past empty. so i guess i'll just keep it filled, problem solved 4 now

When you get the chance, clean the terminals on the sender and then pull the sender and check it er the FSM. It will tell you the OHM's specs.
