Car eating Intake Gaskets...

hey again everyone, today I went back into all the records of work done on my 1985 GSL, and I found that it looks like every 3 years the intake gasket has had to be changed... now im wondering why this is? Im being told again that it needs a new intake gasket. They say at my local mazda dealership that this is what may be causing my car to backfire. Is it normal to have to change a intake gasket this often?

Thanks

The only thing I can think of, is if the gasket isn't being put on properly, thus causing premeature problems.

Sounds like you're leasing the gaskets rather than purchasing them.

Maybe the water orings are leaky, deteriorating the gasket? Do you still have the heat sheild on the exh manifold? Maybe thats deteriorating it from the extreme heat?

only lasting 3 years can only mean one thing... improper installation ! tell them to coat both sides of the intake gasket with the ultra grey rtv...that will help seal out moisture wich can slowly errode away the gasket.. also make sure your intake bolts are not vibrating loose , that could cause the gasket to fail too, the fix for that ....threadlock the intake bolts

Just a thought/question, but if the intake gaskets were leaking, would'nt the car run like ****, and not just backfire?

Sounds more like someone's mechanic liked changing intake gaskets. Gotta love the real "thorough" ones.

funny thing is too for the mazda dealership to change the 10 dollar canadian gasket they wanted $150 stupid labour. Haha thats why its great to get estimates for needed work then just doing it yourself. Thanks again for your replys
