Car dies, Help me please!

Hey guys, here's the story. I bought my car about 2 weeks ago and it has been driving fine and everything works great. Well, yesterday I decided to degrease the engine and clean it up. After I did this the car wouldn't start, so I waited awhile and tried again. Now the engine starts but it will rev to like 2000 and then die...every time. I have no idea how to fix it, everything I check is okay. PLEASE HELP ME

Since the Mazda 3 listed in your profile is of no help, what do you have, carb or SE?

I have an SE...and when I start the car if I hold the key on start it will run, but when I release it back to 'on' it seems like the fuel pump cuts off.

You got something wet. Pick up some wire drier from the parts store and get to work. Leave the hood up and let it dry out. Check all connections that are positioned in such a way that they will collect water and get them dried out. Chances are you'll be fine.

thanks for the advice, that is what I am going to do when I get home, it seems to be getting better the more it sits. Now it will run by itself for a couple minutes before dying. I really hope that's all it is.

If you can let it run until it is fully warmed up, chances are the heat will take care of any residual moisture. If not, then start looking in the plugs and fittings where it may have collected heavily. I think if you can take it for a drive, it should work itself out. Good luck with it...

Yeah, you spray it on wet ignition wires to remove moisture. He should make sure his distributor cap is not cracked too...
