Can't get her started !!!

Greetings,

I have an 84 RX7s that I can't get started. Here's the history. Two years ago, I started the car and backed it out the garage for a wash job.

After washing and waxing, I couldn't get it to start. I completely ran the battery down and finally pushed it back into the garage.

Two years later .... I tried pouring gas into the carb with no luck. Next, I bought a can of starter fluid and sprayed the carb ... no luck

I have checked all fuses ,verified that I am getting spark, and I hear the fuel pump.

What can I do next?

Thanks In Advance!!!

Did it sit up for a long time?

Are you getting ignition fire?

Often a rotary loses compresion after it sit up. There are remedies for that as well.

Give us a little more info.

you probably have a little carbon sticking up the apex seals. maybe a little MMO is in hand? also, have you replaced the fuel filter? perhaps after awhile you may have a small clog. i would replace the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and drain the old gas out and put fresh gas in it. but who knows..

Start fix for Gen 1 RX7

I have paid $50.00 twice for this solution: The problem is that fuel pumped into the chambers dilutes or dissolves the oil which is required to make compression at the rotary apexes, You need to re-establish the compression seal. Before you begin - make sure the battery is fully CHARGED
Step 1 - get a Visine eye drop bottle
Step 2 - Fill it with 10-30 engine oil
Step 3 - Label all spark plug cables
Step 4 - Remove all spark plugs from the block
Step 5 - Either buy a new set of plugs or clean old plugs with Carb cleaner and a power wire brush.
Step 6 - Crank the engine without plugs until a vapor of fuel and oil rises from the engine compartment - this removes any diluted oil from the chambers
Step 6 - Squirt a good amount of oil into the chambers through the spark plug threads
Step 7 - Replace clean/new plugs
Step 8 - Full choke, 2 pumps on the gas pedal, CRANK relentlessly. REPEAT until she fires. Be patient - I have had to do this a couple of times to get a flooded engine kicking.
There is going to be a lot of smoke (from theoil you just suirted into the chambers) it will burn out bfore the choke cuts off. Keep that battery as charged as you can.
EVERYDAY TIP FOR CLEAN STARTING - Always use choke on any start, hot or cold

Remove the spark plug. Squirt some MMO into each lower hole. Rotate the eshaft by rotating the main pulley, then squirt more MMO in. Repeat a few more times. Let sit for few hours. Meanwhile, drain fuel tank and change fuel filter or at least change the fuel filter. Change the oil and oil filter. Charge battery. Clean the plugs or better yet replace them. Start car, and watch the white smoke billow out. It's the MMO, don't worry it'll go away after a while.

Post again if this doesn't work.

I get my MMO at WalMart or Autozone. For more info on the MMO treatment, do a search on MMO.

rx7.com said to use ATF, but they didnt specify what kind. Dexron III, Mercon V etc...., also, I've never heard of MMO is there a difference between atf and mmo, I work at a advance auto parts. maybe if you guys tell me the name of the product I'll know what it is.

I think MMO is better. Marvel's Mystery Oil. Do the search. Several threads out there where people compare of MMO and ATF.

I got it started by pouring an ounce of oil in each of the small carb openings followed by a blast of gunkout carb cleaner.

Didn't realize that MMO was Marvel's Mystery Oil ... had some of that around too!

I didn't mention the carb cleaner before, but that's a good idea too. You've probably got some gunk in there after sitting that long. Especially the checkballs and weights in for the AP.

Check that you have fuel flow at the carb - you may have pump/filter issues.

That's what it sounds like, alright. Look at the little windows on the carb, one in front and one in the back. They should be halfway filled with gas. Let us know if they are, or if they are empty...

chico; if the car you are referring to is a 2nd gen, then you should post your thread in the 2nd gen section of this forum. This is the 1st gen section.
