cannonball run

"The first U.S. Express ended at the beach in Santa Monica, a route slightly longer than Cannonball. Doherty won the first U.S. Express with co-driver and famous game designer, Will Wright (SimCity, The Sims, etc) at the wheel of a Mazda RX-7. Their time was 33 hours, 9 minutes."

#RallyPulse – The U.S. Express Rally & the Ferrari that crossed the USA in 32:07 | Sports Car Hunter

I think the ticket says mazda rx=7 '83 or maybe it's '88???

Very cool. I was a 'Car and Driver' subscriber from '70 on, as a kid I loved reading those cannonball stories.

i always wanted to participate in one. i guess i missed the bus by a few decades.

i guess that leaves some sort of on-road rally today, but the fees for those things are prohibitive for someone like me.

“Everyone knows there are dotted lines on the road. At about 130 they’re solid.”

been there at 130 plus dots do not exsist, nor any small animal that is crossing the road. hit a small rabbit at about 135, totaly blew the front spoiler apart on the 240z. ended up with a flat tire about 5 minutes later. sucked....

I wonder where that famous RX-7 is? I talked to Cory Wells about it when she released her movie 32 hours 7 minutes but I couldn't get any good information out of her.

Some one should write an email to Will Wright

32 hours 7 minutes is a must see if you haven't seen it

THANK YOU midnight_mechanic for this thread and for guiding me to 32:07 the movie. I just finally got it and watched it, it was AWESOME. How amazing is it that first AND second place in 1980 were both RX-7's???? I agree, WHERE ARE THESE CARS??? I can't stress enough if anyone's interested in this amazing story and/or the nostalgia for a different time...BUY THIS MOVIE! Support the Hurculean effort by Cory Welles to get this done and recorded for history!

Come on man, this isn't Metallica or Touchstone or Universal we're talking about...Go to the site I posted above, and BUY the damn thing. I promise you won't be disappointed. It's a miracle such a documentary got made and produced, PLEASE support the effort and buy it! It's a matter of principle...

I'll have to add that video to my collection soon, seems like it would be a good one to watch.
