Can you remove the front crossmember without pulling the engine?

I want to remove the crossmember to clean it up and paint it, as well as doing the new bushings, etc, but I don't have a cherry picker handy to yank the motor. Is there a way to pull the crossmember without pulling the engine?

you can probably just leave a jack under the engine. get a nice flat board to disperse the weight over the oil pan and give it a little cushion.

I don't want the engine anyway. Tempted to just throw it on the ground.

Find someone With an engine holder for a FWD and use it. or visit Harbor freight and buy your own.

LOL, give Adam 4 wrenches and 2 sockets, he'll have a 7 stripped down to the shell in no time.

You can run a couple 2X4s across the engine bay. Cut them 1/2" narrower than the hood, jack up the engine to the height needed, then tie it off and remove the cross member.

Hey, that's not a bad idea... I have a 10,000 capacity come-along, and I have some pretty big trees... I bet that would work!

Damn, guys, that's nothin. I rolled my old S-10 in High School and bent the A-pillars back about an inch. It was just enough to buckle the sheetmetal on the door just above the striker. The solution was to roll the windows down, park the nose of the truck against a tree, put it up on jackstands, run a tow rope through the two windows, up the tree, around the back side, and connect to a comealong.

Once everything was tight, we dropped the jackstands one by one until the truck was hovering off the ground, perpendicular to the tree. A couple big guys jumping the back of the truck was enough to pull the A-pillar forward and straighten it "enough".

i was gonna suggest somthing but scott beat me to it.
make sure the 2x4's are on edge(2"side)O
the 4" side cant really take much weight..
might break or might not. and put some cloths under the wood so ya dont get scratchs

lol i crashed my honda and impacted the front drivers side(front) tied a chain around a tree and reversed at speed managed to bend it enough to but a radiator in so i could keep drivin to work lol
