can you fill an SA tranny from the top???

i read that you can fillan SA tranny from the hole where the shifter goes. is this true? i need to know asap. this will make things a hell of a lot easier on me.

also, is it bad to over fill the tranny? i tried to remove the fill plug yesterday and that bitch doesnt want to come loose.

thanks

I have filled an SA trans from the top, but I removed the shift tower. I also had the fill plug out, and had another pair of eyes below, to watch for the oil spill.
If you cannot get the plug out, just add about 1.7 qt of oil, if the trans is empty. That is close to what I ended up using on the trans I filled in this manner. Over filling can lead to leaking.

Amen to that. Just recently got the two twenty year old bolts out for an oil change. The arm cramp is still there...

i cut the top off of the filler neck of the bottle and got a hose that fit snug, poked a air hole and started squeezing.
