Can someone explain how to attach AN hose ends.

I posted this in the racecar forum but thats slow as hell.

And the people in this forum rock, and it applies to my first gen.

I have a ton of 8 and 6an fuel stuff for my new fuel system. waiting to go in.

How do I properly attach the hose ends to the hose.

I got the basic idea but I want to make sure I do it correctly.

Slide the collar over the hose.
Attach the fitting into the hose.
Move the collar down to the threads, then wrench it down.

It's a pain in the *** BTW.

  • Wrap hose in area to be cut with masking tape
  • Use chop saw or dremel to make cut
  • Unwrap SS hose prior to install of big hollow hose end piece
  • Screw down hose end piece and then lightly mark on the hose where that AN piece screwed down to on the hose...you do not want to see the hose end move from that mark for the next step...
  • Lightly oil the male adaptor that is going to screw INTO the SS hose...
  • Wrap the aluminum part of the AN hose piece on your SS hose in several layers of cellophane and secure in a table vise...do not over-tighten!!
  • Thread the male insert by hand until it gets too hard and then wrap the nut part of it with masking tape...unless you have actual AN wrenches, then you won't need to do so...
  • Tighten until the gap between the hose pieces is within 1/8", you can be a little off in either direction if you want to line up the flat faces, but don't sacrifice too much gap on the loose side...
  • As you do the above, WATCH THE MARK YOU MADE on the SS hose and be sure it doesn't move!
  • Wipe the mark off your hose and you're ready to go...

As for taping before you cut I recomend using the tape with the fiberglass thread in it. It's the same stuff areoquip uses when you buy the lines in the boxes. It's stronger and holds on better than masking tape. -6 is more of a pain than other sizes for some odd reason... But it's not to bad you may want to wear some gloves so you don't poke your hands to death. :P

actually for cutting the hose, use a die grinder, it makes a PERFECT cut. I'll never use anything else on that hose again.

I use a 12" chop saw blade mounted in a Makita pull down radial saw...perfect cuts every time...
