Can I remove the air pump permanantly??

Well Im tearing into the 13b (fuel injected). in process of yanking out the engine.

The air pump states in BIG BOLD LETTERS "do not remove, do not oil"

well obiously im gonna take it off however does it really need to be reinstalled?? Im sure it is purely for pollution control,....isnt it?

anxiously waiting your response.

to take it off right you have to get a acv plate, usally like 5-10$ from a rotary vendor. to do it right you might have to hollow out your cats, cause without the air pump your cats will be glowing redhot...

Done!

ok!

well as soon as I get the engine out,.. she's on the way to the machine shop!

Looks like the pump is gonna be history!

I'm going to replace the entire exhaust anyway and ill take care of the cats then..

However Im going to have to figure out what an "acv plate" is

Thanks for your response!!

acv is the air control valve, look at the hoses the air pump connects to, right on the side of the intake manifold

On a somewhat related note... on the 13B's "rat's nests" of solenoids and such, what can be removed there? I know for 12A's most everything in there can be taken out, but for the FI? What needs to stay for it to still function properly?
