Question Defective shutter valve

Hi all, first of all,,," God Bless America",,,,i read an earlier post about how to check the shutter valve, if the hole in the air filter housing is sucking air at idle then the shutter valve is shot,,ok , mine was sucking air so i plugged the hose up, it idles lots better now, but do i need to do anything to the shutter valve itself ? or just leave the hose plugged and do no more,,,thanks......

Plugging the hose should do ya, but if you get the chance (IE: Carb work soon, removing rats nest soon, engine rebuild soon, etc.) And it's convienient, just remove it and put a cover on the resulting hole.
