Can I fit 16x7 w/ 43mm offset?

Hey all.. I've got an 84 -SE and I've found the wheels I really like, but they only come on 43mm offset not 40 like desired. So this should move the wheels out 3mm. Does anyone know if this will work or not?

Also, since the wheels will be moved out a hair, would 215's fit in the front (I've got GC coil-overs as well) Anyway to measure if no one knows?

215 what? 215 40's or 35 or 45?

Right now I have 205 45 16 on my GSL-SE all around, and they fit under the wheel wells with no rubbing @ all (even under hard cornering), but I'm running stock springs on my car still.

Well, my original plan was to go for the stock +2 replacement 205/45or50/16's but then I was thinking that the clearance issue is with the springs, so if I have a 43mm offset, maybe I can put 215s on the front too...

I'm not trying to change the rolling circumference, since these are gonna be street wheels. SO I'll stick with 215/45-16 Those are on 0.3% off from the 205/60-14 stockers..

The tire ? is secondary to the wheel one. Wheels 1st, then I'll find some tires to go one them. And after looking, the 205's are a hell of alot cheaper anyway...

So will the wheels work alright then? To make the non--SE folk more jealous, they are these, RS Limited Concept Pro (16lbs too):

3mm in? Ah crap, I was wrong....3mm IN definately won't work. And I don't think they make those in a 38 either....

They are great looking wheels, but I'm not familiar with the GSL-SE clearance. Mine '89TII
Maybe someone from 1st gen can be of assistance.

wait, are you sure they will move in? It doesn't look like it to me...

from: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm

from that a 43mm offset would be further OUT than an 40, not the other way around. (these are positive offset wheels)

Positive hub towards out side of wheel. Picture to me looks like negative, mounting towards inside of wheel. Just curious, wht's factory offset?
Perhaps I'd better stick with 2nd gen!

Stock is 40mm offset. My Enkei's are 38mm, 2mm CLOSER to the suspension. 43mm would be 3 mm farther away.

ok, well I keep getting different answers!

Mantis says a 43 will be further OUT than a 40,
Others say a 43 will be further IN than a 40mm

There isn't room to move it in, but out would work great!

3mm won't make a noticable difference. mine are forty but trust me you have Nothing to worry about.

BTW 43mm is the distance measured out from the hub/rotor. So it will be out 3mm more than mine which will still be under the fender.

Buy the rims if you like'm!!

spacers can cause vibration in the wheels, stress on the bolts, etc. and should be avoided.

Mantis is right, and so are the others! Confused yet?
Mantis is refering to the part of the rim that you bolt to the hub.
The others are refering to the actual tire or outside of the rim.
The pic you put there is a good example. +offset is measured from the centre of the rim.
So imagine the offset as +90mm. The centre (where the bolts go through) of the rim would be +90mm from vertical center of the rim. The center of the rim would stick out from the rims itself, which in turn would make the tire come much further in.
If you had +10mm offset the center(where the bolts go through) of the rim would be almost in the vertical centre of the rim in effect moving the actual tire out.

Hope this helps

got it.

The hub moves further out from the centerline, which leaves more of the wheel to be on the inner side of the wheel well....

Offset sucks. Everyone should go by BACKSPACING.

Don't want to beat a dead horse, but picture is positive offset, I originally couldn't clearly make out writing until I opened web site. Thought it was the left side of car. This is positive offset, therefore any additional increase will move the wheel in. Mounting flange futher from center, moving wheel in towards suspension.

Is 1st gen from factory, positive or negative?

rotormotordriver: 4x110 spacing is +23mm

myrxbad: if you get hubcentric spacers it isnt a problem :-P

rx7gslse: nice wheels but why get a fake instead of the racing hart cp-035? they weigh nothin and its a brand thats actually respected.
how much are you lookin to spend? rota might have somethin you like and ive been seeing them onsale quite a bit lately

Yup.. I've been looking at the Rota's... That's what I'm going to end up getting I'd bet.

I'd get the Hart CP-035's, but I'm not going to shell out a couple grand for them... The RS limited ones were the only ones I've found that I can get the gunmetal with the polished lip.

Options:
1)Rota subzeros (same shape &16lbs) come in gunmetal, but no polished lip, and I'm thinking that it might look a little strange with no separation between that and the tire.

2) The subzeros do come in black with a polished lip, which I hadn't considered until today. That might look good on my car as well (dark grey, soon to have very dark tinted windows as well)

3) Rota also makes the Circuit 8, which is a little different design (Mugen MF8 knockoff, kinda like 97 miata wheels to me) and those come in gunmetal w/ polished lip. They weigh about a half lb more.

All of these wheels can be had for about $500 a set 16x7 incl hardware shipping etc etc etc...

Anyone want to add their opinions to this? If you want pictures, try these links.
