can this cause a vaccum leak?...

ok, i tore my carb open again (carl if your reading this i dont need you to look at it anymore) and actually fixed IT! we put it on my neighbors flow bench and found out the problem. know what my problem is now? THE FUGGING BASEPLATE IS LEAKING!!!!! i sprayed around it while it was running and it's only around the baseplate. ugh, i'm going out tonight to a salvage yard to sneak in and get one. can these go bad though? ALSO, is it possible to just replace the o-ring on the baseplate?? or can you only get them as a single whole base unit? sorry for the questions, but this is MY LAST STEP! I AM SOOOOOOO CLOOOOSE!!!! WOOO WOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Wow, nice to have a neighbor with a flowbench. Good thing I have my own.

Baseplate as in spacer? or as in iron baseplate/throttle body on the carb? And what o-ring? Theres gaskets on either side of the spacer that are bonded on (dont try to remove the gaskets, dont ask why, just trust me). Dont bother trying to buy a new spacer, too much $$$$$$$$$$$$. Usually a carb kit comes with new gaskets for it.

waaait, i thought you didnt use the gaskets with the carb kit on my 84 carb, cause the baseplate has the gasket on it. i thought, hmm, do i put the gaskets on there too????? i am talking about that black plate that goes in between the carb and the manifold.

Ok, thats the spacer. Use the new gaskets. You may have to modify them, ie add holes/ cut as necessary to match the holes in the spacer. I've seen many different gaskets in different kits
