Well you want the good news or the bad news first?
Good news is the car runs ok and anything with lube is not rusted.
Bad news is everything without lube is rusted.
What do you all think about the chances of restoring this 84?
I was thinking if the body is to far gone I will use this for parts and find
a good body.
I am going to take it to get a few body shop estimates soon.
The pic of the rust on the hatch back area. Almost made me pass out lol

my personal thoughts are... with the hatch in the shape its in...gonna take some srious cash or time for that one. Depends on what you wanna spend where you live and how easy are they to find. in my area they are hard to find. seeing as how you live in texas i think there would be very prime condition one's down there.

Yea I think I know the answer already. It's bad news doctor. Unless I want to spend buku cash. More than a 1000-2000 I figure it more than a body with less rust. And my long term goal of painting it with a new House of Kolor paint would be worthless if it was just gonna rust out a year later.
Sigh.. this thing drives smooth as silk it's sad to see the rust. I bet it got damaged from Rita and other Galveston / Houston area floods.

Or option b. I take it to a Mazda dealer and get it inspected and compression test the engine and sell it. I am sure the compression will test ok from how smooth it's running. Just saying I could get an upgrade to GSL-SE. I got RX7 fever all over again from driving this around.

I think the cancer has progressed too far. Only option on the body is a total strip and a lot of patch wielding then a lot of that Por 15. And even that might be impossible to stop the corrosion.
I really wanted to save this car.

I mean mine has issues under the car. Body is excellent. no whel well bin rust. just some torsion area rust and a small hole in the frame rail. 10 hours tops. you on the other hand are probally looking at 50 hours in rust repair alone if not more
