A/C question. How to remove system from vehicle?

Well as you can see I am fairly new to owning a rx7 and well I love the sound of a rotary and that is what made me buy one. I currently own a 1984 GSL-SE I bought for 350.00 and its in pretty good shape. Well my question is that the A/C dont work and I want to remve it from the engine bay and was wondering if there was how to on it?

There is not much information that details the removal of the A/C system.
Being that your are in San Antonio I would of figured that you would be asking how to recharge the system especially with the humidity there.

There is no real big secret to removing the system. It's a matter of undoing the hoses and components and removing them. I would leave the evaporator core in the car and just tape over the hose connections after you remove the A/C hoses.

I'm wondering what's the easiest way to actually remove the compressor from the car without busting the **** out of your hands? Those lower mounts are tricky

It is not against the law to remove the A/C components.
It is against the law to remove the system if it still has R12 in it without recovering the freon 1st.

I have no gas in the AC and dont want it anymore so i started to take it apart today. I found out the hard way that getting it off hurts fingers The bolts dont like to come off either, they are soaked in RP7 at the moment and i'll try again tomorrow. I have no idea how to get them off, i've tried the 12mm rachet, vice clamp and a spanner, the cordless drill is to big to fit in there. Maybe i'll do a write up and some pics if all goes well.

Mine had some thick green goo in the pipe

No.

And like everyone else has said, just follow hoses and remove everything. Let any pressure out first though. Theres a valve on the compressor (covered in a little plastic cap, on mine anyways) that you can push on and if theres pressure, it will begin to escape. Its illegal but thats one way to depressurize the system.

I don't remember the lower mounts being a real issue...
That bracket has gotta be made out of lead though, damn is it heavy.

Idk if r12 and r134a share a color but when my 626 blew up I think the first thing I did out of instinct was to hacksaw my way through the steel a/c line... I was 17 and had never torn an engine down so I got excited, thing wasn't working either... but the line just spewed yellow and I'd just evacuated and refilled the lines myself about 5 months prior while trying to beat the summer heat. If I had to guess its probably just coolant residue that built up on the lines over time.

Glazedham42 removed the AC on his rex, and took pics and explanations of plugging all the holes.

But not a lot of info on the parts in the engine bay.

under the dash after you remove the cover panel, there is a 10 mm nut up under there facing straight down, it is located on the side of the evaporator housing toward the rear of the car, ther is also one on the bottom of the box facing straight backwards... remove these two and also the tw phillips screws on the clamps on each end of the box.... once these and the two hoses under the hood are disconnected the box can be removed... with a little persuasion... then take the box out and apart... plug holes with either silicone or nuts and bolts with silicone( this is what we did). then put the box back in so your heater and fan ducting works
