A/C or Not
A/C or Not
My dilema is this. My A/C does not work. Should I remove it? If not has anyone had it converted and how much would that be? All lines and compressor look good. It is a daily driver and I am not racing it.
I took mine out, but it was broken and there wasn't even a space for the belt on the main pulley (the previous owner changed the pulley for some reason). I wish I had A/C though, with my black interior it get's hotter than the depths of hell during the summer. Long stoplights on sunny 95-degree days are definitely not enjoyable.
For a daily or even weekend driver, it's not really worth the 30 pounds or whatever that you save by taking it out.

A/c
Since i am a old fart i like the comfort of having A/C and where i am in Ca during the summer it gets up to the 115 deg range. Have it retro'd to r134a for a inexpensive repair if your climate is milder than mine. But if you are in hot weather r12 is the way to go but very expensive for the freon.
Define not working.
Does it just need recharging or is the compressor frozen? Do you have all the components there or will you have to junkyard dive to get parts? Do you know if the system holds freon or will you have to troubleshoot the snot out of it to get the leaks repaired?
I would look at those things then decide if correcting the problem is worth the money. I have driven a 65 Fairlane with no AC in Texas in July. It sucked but in reality it just shows how 'soft' we have become. 30 years ago no one would have thought twice about doing such a thing.
And yes, my RX7 has working AC. I may be soft but I am not stupid. I'm also getting AC installed in the Fairlane, I ain't doing that again

I broke the bracket on my compressor, so I took mine out. It didn't work anyways.
but plugging up the lines is tiresome, and I bent one or two connectors. I would just leave it in, because once you take it out it's pretty much impossible to reinstall.
