Bye Bye 7

Well, after a few months of trying to sell my 85 GS, we parted ways today, a sad day indeed. She really was a good car, always ran and never gave me any trouble beyond normal maintenance stuff. She just did not meet our lifestyle anymore, mid thirties with kids, no use for a two seat sports car. Maybe someday, the fds will come down to earth and we can pick one up when the kid (now newborn) can enjoy a sunday drive in Dad's fancy 7.

I think the guy who picked her up was even surprised how well she ran and generally the condition was better than he expected. I just hope she brings them as much joy and satisfaction as she brought me. There is just a special feeling driving a 1985 car that runs better than a lot of newer cars - and with very minor modifications can out corner most as well.

(sigh) I hope you all will let me hang out on your board anyway and help out some folks as they solve their 7s problems...

Guess I can take my RX7 web page down now........

That is just sad. A solid RX-7 is just like real estate...they can't make anymore so if you've got it, hang on to it. Hopefully, the money did some good stuff for your family...

How much did you get for it? I'd kind of like mine to go away too.

I just picked up an 1985 gsl of course with an 12a enging silver with burg. leather inter. $500. and drove it home. my second one. my first love is my 1985 gsl se 13 b fuel injected with same inter. both cruse nice but gsl se sure scoots out fast. sad to hear that you had to give up your first baby for the later one. too bad you couldn't store it.. I'm always looking for more cars. found one under a inch of green moss. butt no one will talk to me about it yet.. love finds like that. yours sounded like a fine find wish I had found it sooner....
later daze

Not depressing at all, kids are an awesome blessing - someday my son and I will be rebuilding an FD; life moves on as they say. I loved the 7, I loved rebuilding its suspension and straightening the engine out. And deep down, I enjoyed passing it on to the new owner who is also a forum member with a solid rotary resume - I am sure he will keep us all posted on its developments and take the car to the next level (even though he wants to pull the 12A out and put a 13B in - where's the love ;-) ).

Well, Buckaroo....
I know how you feel. There was the time when one by one all of my Volvo's left the Corral I used to have up North....

Now, it's years later and I've got my toys back again. MG, Saab, and Rotaries....Plenty of Rotaries! My youngest Son just purchased a 10th anniversery edition TII....Gonna need a little work, but she's a beauty of a little hoss........

Stay in touch, Cowboy

John, did not mean to make it seem I was picking on you, replying to a sentiment and yours was closest to the bottom.

Peace...

That's what I figured, but I wanted to be sure you had not missed the bottom half of my post.

Just curious, can you tell us what mods you did to the suspension and engine... and how many miles on the car? Thanks!

It's all listed on the web page - but for ease.

Very few mods but a lot of fixing....
Suspension Techniques springs, tie rods - inner and outer, ball joints, polyurethane bushings in the front, stock replacement struts. The ride was a bit harsh for my tastes and street driving.

Engine mods - none of significance, changed the cat system to a bonez high flow. That was about it. Just took really good care of it, changed fluids regularly and verified the metering oil pump flow often, never let the car overheat....

211K miles and still ran great, the guy who picked it up seemed surprised at how well it ran. When I picked the car up at 197k, it ran ok but the brake system was trashed, that was all replaced. At oil changes, I would move plugs, leading to trailing and trailing to trash and new plugs to leading.
