ARGH,
ive been into this reinstalling the wiring harness problem with my '79, got everything hooked up, hooked up the battery ( later i find out its backwards), so after i hook up the battery I check out everything; it all works except the hazard lights and the wipers( blew the intermiten relay in the wiper circuit), that was all, the started even cranked the engine over when i pushed the key to far on accident, so i go and change the oil and am gettin excited, cause I havent ever started this car (as the harness was out when i bought the car), so i hooked up the alternator and coils, and hooked the battery bac up, it arcs every time. So i wait till my dad gets home and have him give me hand, he gets into it and decides to check my battery cables, r where they lead, and it turns out i had the battery hooked up backwards, so he starts to hook it up correctly, when he goes to put the neg. on the fusable links pops and shoots one of the fuses out and smokes, it arcs like crazy anytime you ground the pos. wire, with the wire that goes to the fuseable link.

no im lost im pretty sure everything is hooked up right, causeim so afraid ill break this car, ive checked everything like three times befor i even tryed the battery,

any input on my predicament will be appreciated

You may have smoked the diodes in the voltage regulator. Search, we just had a thread on the same thing (batt hooked up backwards) in the last month.

If it's arcing like that when making the connection--then something is drawing a big load.

Disconnect all your power, remove your fuses and turn everything off. Then start resistance (ohms) checking from the fuse connections to ground. You can do this from both fuse boxes. Some things can't be tested this way but most can. You should be able to narrow down what is shorted to ground.

Basically nothing on the hot side should see ground with out going through a load. Unfortunately resistance doesn't always tell the whole story.

Good Luck.
