Looks like its got very low mileage. I hope he gets it, things like this will help drive the cost of our cars up.

well its a mint condition first gen, you might as well call it an antique for what the owner has put up with keeping it so clean, but def not a 10k car, but like Modified85 said, i hope he gets it too, that will stimulate the economy for older rx-7s

Really? Go out and price a paint job that would match "Showroom Condition". i'm not talking about a just "Good" paint job. I mean as if came off the showroom. Then go price out the leather interior as done in " Showroom" condition.

If you had to pay for those 2 items you would be forking out between $6k to $8k. Theres is a big difference between a replacement paint job and something as pristine when it was done at the factory.

I have seen restoration paint jobs on cars go up to $20k just for the paint work.

And yes, i know the guys that posted that think it is not worth it. But it is not cheap to have a car professionaly restored. And i don't know anyone personally that can prep and shoot paint to qualify for restoration quality. The materials and paint alone in Ca for excellent paint can be anywhere from $300.00 to $500.00 a gallon or more. You can easily have $1000-$2000 alone in your materials.

Twinkletoes, post up some pics of your 7 and i'll compare it to the one listed.

I don't have a camera so i can't but if you search in the forum for "my first car. 83 gsl! PICS!!!" you could see some pics of it my friend took. I think thats the thread name. The only problem with my car is that it needs a rebuilt engine. Oh ya, the paint on my 7 is the factory paint!

back in 98-99ish we had a guy drive a beat up U2 blue 83 GS. he said his wife wouldnt let him buy her a new cadillac so make this one look new. we told him he was crazy, but he did it anyways.

we replaced a fender, a door (rust and dents), all the lenses and lights, mouldings, both bumpers, all the badges. interior was nice, it got door panels, and some other little things, but it really just needed a good scrub.

the bill was over $11k.... parts were around $4k, paint was like $6k

it did look new, but we didnt even open the hood!

another one, my friend just bought. really nice white gsl-se, 147k original paint. the paint cleaned up to be perfect, top and bottom (bolts are still shiny underneath) the motor died, he had some of the parts, but it needed rotor housings, so he bought those, all the water hoses, and clamps, tons of little misc clips neither one of us had (we've both been playing with these for over a decade!), shocks, springs, tires, he rebuilt the ps pump, box, clutch etc etc

he paid $2500 for the car, he's got like $7k into it, and this ones got the factory paint....

If a toyota AE86 can run upwards of 8-10k for one in decent shape, then there's hope for our cars. lets not forget, there once was a time when the chevelle was reguarded as simpily "an old car", i dunno just my $.02.

I could see that car going for 10k if it were a GSL-SE, but not as a GSL. Its a great car with low mileage and all, but 10k for a 12a is far too much. That is how much they were with 0 miles on them, and technically its got another year and a half before it is a classic car (going by the 25 year rule). I can see that same car in a few years going for that, but today? I can see maybe five to seven thousand.

And regardless of restoration factor, you rarely ever get what you put into a car and that is the only reason I am saying between five and seven. I have no doubt that he put well over ten thousand into it excluding purchase if that is a real restoration.

The AE86 is also an extremely reliable car, with an extremely reliable reputation. When people think rotary, almost all thing "unreliable." The AE86 also handles extremely well. Atop of that, you see a **** ton of those out there in drift events (which is becoming the ever too popular craze now). How many first gen rx7's do you see on national television drifting against Vipers and sr20 powered 240's? You have to take into consideration the popularity. When people see a first gen rx7 they don't know what it is. When people see an AE86 they say "I saw one of those on the television drifting with *insert drift car*", or "I watched that car on Initial D" which just so happens to be an all too popular anime. That is just my two cents.

The car is not a restored car it is an "Original" in Factory Showroom condition.
New they were going from $12k to 13k for a Gsl. oldcarspriceguide.net has a car in this condition at $9500.00. It does not have to be a Classic to be valued at any amount of money.
It does help in some cases though.

I like this one even better, looks to be a totally original mint GSL with 16,000 on it and in perfect condition, leather like it just came off the showroom:

I can beat all of you! $32000 cnd.

http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details....ategory=&CAT=1

Its a widebody, chevy V8 swapped monstrosity. Its even an SA. I do like the body though. He says its appraised at $32000.

EDIT: for some reason that link doesn't work and I can't get it working. If you search on http://www.trader.ca/search/default....goryid=1&CAT=1 you can find it. For location put in all of ontario.

It's all about what you want... If you truely love the factory design and original wonder of the FB then a 26 year old car in that good of shape is worth it. If you like TII swaps, full suspension , and modifying things then that car is the biggest rip off ever. I bought my old GSL-SE for $1800, and it was in great shape inside and out. Also, low miles doesn't always mean it's in better shape. How a vehicle was cared for makes all the difference.
