Brown Mound is in for new paint!!!!
Finally, got the Mound in the body shop for paint. Going for a quality job. Attached are some before and after pictures. A few months ago a woman backed out of her driveway and nailed my drivers side door. Smashed glass, door totalled, huge dent behind door. So I've been cruising around with a black door for a while, but I can't wait for this to be done.
Ordering all new seals, badges, valence, grille, some interior parts. New hatch carpet, gotta paint the interior hatch pieces. Powder coating the windshield moldings so the chrome won't show through.
Before you ask, it's not cheap. But the cost is offset by the fact that I convinced the woman who hit my car to pay me out of pocket rather than using insurance, who would have totalled the car. We agreed at $2000. They were very kind and understanding of my love for the car. Of course, my 3 page discourse that I wrote might have had something to do with it!
All of this will be documented on my website as soon as I get off my lazy *** and get it going again. (Summer in Austin should be called "Distraction" as in there are hundreds of college aged girls sunning themselves in bikinis less than 200 yards from my door in a 1000 foot long spring fed 68 degree natural swimming hole, Barton Springs, aka Heaven. I can't help but spend all my time there.)
Here are some before and during shots. They found a really crappy bondo job where I guess it had been hit before. The Mound has survived lots of ****!
Right on!!

Brown, baby, brown...one, it's original. two, I kind of like it, looks classic. It's unique, as they don't make brown cars much these days. three, it's too hard to change the color of the car. If I had it stripped compltely to the frame I might have changed it, but like I said this is my daily driver, not a show car.

Congrats on getting it painted, and kudos for staying with the original color. Be it ever so humble, there is nothing like a shiney brown car. No where near as common as black or red, and can "blend in" when need be.........

Who needs to blend in?
I think it's admirable that you want to stick with the original paint code. It would have added a bit to the cost to have them convert to another color, but I think I had it a bit easier, since the 'desert tan' (beige) code was light enough to make yellow a possibility for me.
We want to see the finished pictures once you have them - nice resto,

The only other color I considered changing it to was maybe a forest deep green. I think it would look ok with the brown interior. But it's just too difficult to do it right. This way when I open the hood it's still brown underneath.
Everyone knocks brown, but I think it's fine man. Hell, I've even seen some late model cars coming out in brown, so maybe it's due for a comeback!
As long as that Earlly 90's Ford Tempo Teal doesn't come back....

I think I saw you on Lamar the other day headed towards downtown. I was in my Atlantic Blue LE (little darker than my avatar).
You know you can repair that dent with a Right front fender, eh? I've got pics of how I did it on my racecar if you're interested.

That very well could have been me. I live, work, breathe off of South Lamar. Not too many brown mounds around town.

Unfortunately I don't have a good after picture, but from a distance you can't tell it was repaired!
First picture is a "before". Second shows what was cut out (I needed part of the wheel arch). Third is the fender cleckoed in place ready to get welded, which is what the 4th picture is. Ground it down and painted it, which gets us to the 5th picture.
If I ever have an operable camera I'll take some close up "after" pictures.

Can't wait for more updates on your site. It was your OMP rebuild and your engine bay cleaning that gave me the want to do mine!

I got a brown GSL, also, but I hate the color, actually. No offense, guys.
I would rather it be primered grey to be honest. Might get around to painting it some day.

It's a recent repaint of the original color, according to the guy I bought it from. It's a rich metallic paint, shimmers real nice in the sun and gives it different hues depending on the lighting.

I still dig the brown. If I ever start restoring RX7s again (damn making money fixing other peoples' cars!) brown is somewhere around #3 on the "paint color I'd like to use" list. I'd probably whiz on the purists and use a Porsche brown, tho.
