Broken wheel lock..?

I aquired a 85 GSL-SE that's been sitting for 5 years... ugh.

Slowly bringing her back to life and I can't get the wheel locks off. I have the key but the metal on the lug with the key-pattern is shitty and it just bent out of shape.

I remember somewhere once I seen a universal socket that was tapered or sumthing to that extent in a rim shop that they used to bang on and remove stripped lugs or old wheel locks...

Does anyone know where I can get one of those, or anything similar... preferbly online...?

I thought about welding a socket to the lock but the car has butterfly rims and I'd only be able to get probably a few spot welds on only a 1/3 of the lock... and I don't think that'll be enough to break it loose.

Or maybe any other ideas..???

If you don't plan on keeping the lug nut then use either a external easy out that will fit around it, or if you're really daring, big vise grips?

Or... a more creative solution could be to simply drill the nut's sides in a bit and whack it with a hammer to crack it...

Of course I'm just thinking destructive right now! lol

Anyone else have any less destructive methods?

Soak with PB Blaster for a couple days, then apply heat to the lug. A small acetylene welding tip works best. Also use an impact screw driver that accepts sockets.

Last time someone had this problem I suggested this:

https://www.mytoolplace.com/Gator-Gr...FQ7aDAodGwvehg

Search and see what others came up with and if successfull what the OP used to get his wheel locks off....

I now know what my next attempt is going to be...

I'm going to use a cutting wheel and make two slots right across the face and wack the ****** with my big bit impact screwdriver... I'll let you's know how it turns out...

Thanks for the ideas fellas. I was having idea block...

Snap-on tools and Mac tools carry that tool....

lisle probably does too.

They are cheap.... I would ruin your rim for that.

But these wheel lock removers require lots of hammering, and quite a few tries.

You could also weld a nut on to your lock nut and then use a standard socket.

That's a dammm good idea tooo...

Welding the socket to the lock idea was no good b/c where I'd have to weld was too deep and close to the rim... I wouldn't be able to get enough bite...

but a nut to the lock might just work...

ON

I had this problem on the two front wheels of my parts car. On the first attempt, I tried welding a socket on...but penetration wasn't deep enough and it just snapped off. Then I tried splitting it down the center with a grinding wheel...but it split badly and took me forever to chisel the rest out.

On the second wheel I got a little smarter, took a grinding disc and flattened the sides of the lock - just enough so I could get a socket over it (had to hammer it on). With the help of a breaker bar, I was able to get it off.

Good luck.

This is the method I usually use except I just use a socket thats just barely smaller then the lug nut. Then I just hammer it on, as long as you get the socket on squarely you should be able to attach you socket wrench and with a breaker bar it will come right off. But you have to get the socket on nice and tight

To remove the lug nut from the socket you will have to insert a screw driver or a bolt through the back of the socket and hammer it out. You will either have to place the socket in a vise grip or use a larger deep socket to brace the edges of the socket with the lug nut, then hammer out the lug.

Repeat this proccess on all the wheel locks. Also if you have expensive tools just go to kragen or similar and buy a cheap socket, so just in case you cant get the lug nut out of the socket it will only cost you $5.00 and there is no grinding or cutting involved.

I'm thinking this thing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Matco...1%7C240%3A1318

Only dilema is the lugs are 13/16 and the wheel lock is round. The 13/16 socket doesn't fit over the lock so I'm not sure if this thing will either... ?

Oh i have those same round one on my SA. Those are going to be a bit harder to get of to get off. I need to remove mine also so ill keep you posted on my results. But that ebay tool will not work if the wheel lock is round. Ill post a picture of mine later to see if we have the same type.

Here's a pic of the wheel lock stuck on the car...

The lug nut remover didn't fit...

so I took a dremel to the wheel lock to make it fit....

End result was the wheel lock came off SUPER easy...

Just drill it out.
When you drill past the head of the bolt, it will come right off.
Then remove the threaded part with pliers.

*EDIT* Nevermind, didnt read the last post
