Brembo rotors.

I went searching for new front rotors, and all three shops I visited couldn't order me any cheap rotors. The only rotors all three shops could order me were Brembos. NAPA wanted $140 each!, another wanted $120 each, and another wanted $90 each. I felt like I had no other choice, so I ordered them from the $90 shop. All of them had the same excuse, that there ware house didnt have any of the cheapys in stock, and that it would take a couple weeks to get them in. I know Brembo is an extremely good product, but I don't wanna pay that much for rotors.

Has anyone ever used, or even heard of Brembo rotors for the FB?

Even though everyone wants/needs to save money, these are your brakes we're talking about. Next time try www.rockauto.com or something like that. After shipping they would still be cheaper. They are just as good as stock and the only thing you really need to improve your braking is a decent set of pads and maybe some stainless lines.

Either the shops you visited have a high markup or the border/import tax is raping them. It's cheaper to buy them online and have them shipped.

That's where the parents PayPal account comes in handy, with permission of course.

You have all sorts of problems, lol. Look for an online site that accepts Money Orders then. Another option is to find a friend in the States that's willing to work with you. Have the rotors shipped to them, then they can reship across the border to you. There's almost always a way around a problem if you think hard enough on it.

Brembo is a top of the line brake company. Standard on most BMW. Also used on Porsche and MBZ.

The ones I bought from LORDCO were $25 a rotor... they were the generic brand, but then when I looked at the rotors, they were stamped Brembo. Worked great...

Where in Canada are you? In BC just go to Lordco.

Just a little info for all.
Raybestos and many other "Brand Name" recogonition brake rotors/drums are not made by them.
United brake parts makes brake rotors and drums for alot of the "Brand name" companies. Alot of times also they buy reboxed ones which turn out to be Brembo brake products.

Advance Auto and Autozone both sell different brand rotors for FB's at a reasonable price.

Many performance shops have a very high markup on their products. That's how they stay in buisness......surprisingly.

yeah - a girl I was dating around Christmas time was getting a new water pump installed in her Pontiac Grand Am. The shop wanted to charge her $390 for the part alone. I sourced out a new-in-box one for about $120. Her father was insisting a shop do the work, so they could have a warranty on it (and he paid for the car, so his decision). I gave the shop a choice; use the part I'd sourced, or lose our business. They were reluctant to use "outside" parts (even though they buy them from the same place I'd sourced mine) but quickly agreed to charge her the price I was quoted. So quickly, in fact, one wonders if they weren't paying the $120 or less then marking it up, despite claiming they sell the parts "at cost".

At 119, you still paid too much. I bought a full set of drilled and slotted rotors for a TII for 250 shipped on eBay. Sold the TII but the rotors will be going on the widebody along with the big brake kit.

I know I could have gotten cheap rotors, if I wasn't intimidated by online shopping. Plus I don't have the resources to buy online. Im on the east coast of Canada (Nova Scotia) so there arn't any shops like Autozone or Pep Boys or Advanced. WE have Napa, and Canadian Tire, and a **** load of random performance shops. So Canadian Tire and Napa couldn't get me the cheap ones, and it would take weeks to get em. So I bought the Brembos at the cheapest place.

They're coming in today, but I don't know when Im picking them up.

I got the same thing and didn't pay that much. I have looked at them and they were made in Canada. But I know what you mean about trying to find rotors, the cars are so old, no one makes the rotors anylonger. Power Slot and Power Stop are out of stock, I called them. But then again, I was looking for 13b rotors. They may still have 12a rotors.

LOL, if he chooses to spend his time in the lounge, more power to him. I avoid that sub-forum like the plague. I suppose it has it's own function and purpose, I have yet to find any value of it for myself.

'84-GSL-12A, shopping on the internet has the same risks/pitfalls and benefits that shopping at local suppliers can have. However, the time spent and the money saved can easily out weigh the risks. That in itself is worth having a checking account and a PayPal account, even if you need a parent to cosign on a joint account or have them own it out right.

I look at it this way. The more I can save on each little part, the more I can buy for replacement parts or upgrades. In this day and age with global suppliers and sellers, it's silly to pay list price for anything and down right lazy/ignorant to pay a premium price.. Had I not shopped around for buying parts for the widebody and if I had not known or learned how to do the work myself, I would have over 20k in the build, instead of around 7k. On top of that, you would hear me bitching about so called 'mechanics' and 'body men' whose work didn't meet my standards.

Every little bit of savings adds up and that savings can increase one's the ability to buy more parts/upgrades. At your age, those pennies/dollars saved have even more value. Instead of complaining about high pricing, take some pro-active steps. Shop around and price compare. Shops make a good deal of their profit from product markup. If you can show them that you can buy the same part cheaper elsewhere, they will often price match just to keep your business. A satisfied customer becomes a repeat customer. If the business/seller is unwilling to give a bit, make it clear to them that you can and will take your dollar elsewhere.

If I ask nicely, the local speed shop here will price match the big online sellers like Jegs and Summit Racing. Not only do I often get the needed part sooner, I save the shipping costs, which at $9+, even for a small 3 buck part can add up quickly.

Sorry for the soapbox and 'Dad' rant, but helping out members is my main purpose for being here. I generally do that through knowledge, life experience and occasionally the paternal side. Even rarer is my 'reality check' mode. That can be fun at times but tends to po the newbs while entertaining the vets.
