after adding Seafoam....

since adding 1/2 can of seafoam lastweek........the first start of the day (cold) it will rev to 3000 and not drop down. I have to shut engine off re-start do this a couple times then it calms down. it will work fine the rest of the day. any ideas as to why it revs so high and not calm down?

Check and see if your throttle cable and linkage is binding

The SEs are setup to rev to 3k when dead cold. If blipping the throttle doesn't bring it down, then check the linkage as mentioned.Starting the engine, either in or out of gear, don't remember which, is supposed to bypass the AWS system. If none of the remedies mentioned work, check the clearance of the primary and secondary throttle plate. You may have loosened a bit of carbon that's holding open the secondary plates or blown out a piece that was sealing them

Throttle plate specs are in sec. 4B of the 85 FSM.

Thanks... it usually revs between 2.5k to 3k dead cold. Throttle cable/linkage clean and free moving. we always start out of gear just habit. I'll have a look at the 85fsm.

take a look at your fast idle cam, it's controlled by your wax pellet. make sure the throttle linkage isn't sticking there. also check your throttle cable And cruise control cable to make sure nothing is binding.

remember that wax pellet melts with the flow of coolant over it, so make sure your coolant is topped off, OR there is a line that runs around the front of the the throttle plates. I believe that supports the flow of coolant to the wax pellet. And always a full depress of the pedal on startup to get On the fast idle.
