Talking Brake Pictures Are In

Hey Guys!

I finally managed to get some pictures from my brake overhaul scanned. Unfortunately most of the pics I took with my camera didn't turn out, but here are some pics that did For the parts pic I'm only going to post the link because the pic is HUGE, so 56k users beware!

I may get a few more in a few days, but basically that's it. Parts that aren't shown in the parts list (bought later that week) are : Master Brake Cylinder, Rear Brake HardLine, one Rear Brake Adjuster and E-brake Cable.

What a job that was!

Nice work viper, feels good when you do it yourself and you know what you've got. How do they work?

well ray brakes work like this, when you depress the pedal the master cylinder pushes fluid to the "calipers" the "pistons" in these "calipers" push pads against the what people call the "disc" or "rotor" which are conected to the axel and when the "pads" cause enough friction on the "rotors" it slows the car down.

I'm just messing with ya ray

Ray - I don't know yet!

The brakes are about 1/3 of all the work I've had to do to get it road worthy so far. Another 1/3 is the suspension (RB Springs, KYB shocks) which have been bought but are sitting in the basement until spring.

I figure I'll have it on the road by May. I've bought everything, I just have to finish getting it all together when the snow melts, get it safety-checked and licenced. Without the carb rebuild I haven't even been able to get it out of the driveway yet!

But believe me, I'll be plastering the forum with proud pics and posts when it hits the road. You're absolutely right about doing it yourself - from brakes to suspension, to air/fuel/spark systems I've personally touched every part of this car in the last two years, and now I know what condition *everything* is in. AND I got to choose my own suspension setup

As long as we're showing off our brakes, here's mine, I did them a few weeks ago.

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/479957/10

I kept the rotors and calipers, they were in good shape, put in stock Mazda pads and stainless steel brakes lines from MazdaTrix. I also replaced the two rear brake pipes and junction - one of the pipes had rusted out, which is what got me going on this in the first place. What a difference a new set of pads makes, and the ss lines give a real tight pedal feel. And now, thanks to Rotofire, I actually know how they work!

I just ordered a new set of rotors and Hawk HP pads for my set up. I'm also replacing the wheel bearings to go with it. I did this all before with the GSL, but I have to do it all again with the GSL-SE hubs I just upgraded it too. Now I'm stuck driving my Prelude until my brake parts come in.

I like the look of 7s without the side moulding for the most part... I don't think it'd fit what I'm trying to go for with my car though... but I'll keep considering it. That guy who got a 7 for 300$ should consider it, since most of his side moulding is falling off anyway

As for 85GSL above, I think your rims rock. What kind of rims are those?

Those are Sawblades. I actually will be selling them in the near future. I have converted to GSL-SE hubs and such, and painted the car "Chalk-board black". As for the rims, I chewed one up pretty bad, it's going to need to be sent to a repair place, but $75 an you should have it good as new.
