a couple stupid questions to start..first, did you check to make sure the white connector on each light assembly was plugged in? next, have you checked your bulbs?

Your horn is connected to your brake lights. If you honk your horn and it doesn't honk, then you also have no tail lights Vice versa, it narrows down the problem.

Check this ground point. Tail lights and back up lights are grounded here. If this is disconnected neither light circuit will work.

My tail and stop lights didn`t work and I had just had the car painted. It seems they had to remove the tailight buckets to paint and didn`t bother to re-install the bulbs; cut the wires on the 2 outside ones (not turn signal lites) and the guy working on it didn`t bother to check...His name is Bryn Park so I wouldn`t use his services, anyone!!!

Okay heres a little update to help.

The switch on the brake pedal is working. The fusebox has pwer comeing to it and the fuse isnt blown. The red lights back there work when the lights are turned on but dont get brighter or turn on when i hit the brake.

we did the continuity tester and its not getting power to the second part of the bulb nor is the bulb burnt out.. soo i think its a wire or a relay... any help would be appriceated guys =)

On your brake light switch, you should have a white wire that goes to a unit called a stop light checker, which appears to be near the fuse panel. That checker should have a green wire that goes to the stop lights. You need to find out if that green wire has power between it and ground when you step on the brake pedal.

Get a multimeter and follow the wiring diagram for your car from the link below. Keep moving down the circuit till you find your problem.

So i fixed it tonight. I followed the wiring diagram using a multimeter testing everything down and when i was pulling the fat connector in the hatch bin apart to check for power going to it i check the brake light for the hell of it and it worked. it must have worked itself loose in the connector. I could never get the connector apart to spray contact cleaner in it tho.. i was afraid of braking it.

Guys, I'm intermittently losing all my rear lights, and I imagine it's the Er ground listed above. It's also listed in the FSM as X-16. Can someone tell me where it's physically located and what it looks like? I'm feeling around up behind the rear hatch light, and further left near the ******* bag, but don't feel anything strange.

Stock location is under the left mounting bolt on the latch mechanism. I like to move them to the side of the center support so they have their own separate mounting point. You have to remove the rear trim to get to it. I'll post pictures when I put away the laptop and get on my regular computer.

I'll never be able to touch a WW bag without gloves again.

I'm glad my car is female... She's a bitchy little tease, sometimes, and a bit high-maintenance at times, but at least I'm not having to ask her to turn her head and cough.

Your break light problem has to be caused by the relay located behind the fuse box. Sometimes they lose contact inside and the lights won't come on. Also check the break light switch. Most likely it's the relay.Open the relay, look with magnify glass. Resoder it.

I checked the wires mentioned here an I do not have power between the green wire on stop checker harness. What would cause this? All my lights work. I have power at white wires on brake switch and stop checker. 1985 gslse. Horn works so im assuming fuse it good

Did you pull the bulbs to ensure the filament was good in each brake light bulb? They are a double filament bulb. Sounds redundant but I have seen something that simple cause a lot of headaches.

I replaced all the bulbs in tail light assembly and still nothing. I completely know what you mean though. Simple things are easily overlooked. Any other suggestions? I have my brake switch hanging to simulate the pedal being pushed. No power at lights or in storage bin behind driver seat.

All these pictures were taken with the brake switch out of the bracket so its as if im on the brakes already.

This is brake switch. White wire with orange hashes has power when pedal is engaged and non when its disengaged. Green with red hashes has constant power

Constant power on this green wire

Power to this white wire when pedal is engaged

Stop checker... white wire has power with pedal engaged non with it disengaged. Neither green wire has power.

Power at fuse box

Power to white wire on stop checker with pedal engaged

Black harness has power blue has nothing

White wire with orange hashes leads to this gold thing. Has power with pedal engaged an vis versa here as well. I dont see this wire in hatch though..???
