yeah, but it's his IP that's banned, so he can't even make a new name

How effective is IP banning? Unless you have a static IP service, you should have a new IP addr from time to time. Or do they ban a whole subnet?

I don't know how the banning goes on this site, but some use subnet banning....

My IP hasn't changed through my ISP since I signed up.

Subnet banning sounds a bit harsh. I'm a little rusty on address segmentation, but IIRC if you're on a class C network, a subnet ban would affect 255 addresses.

I have a "dynamic IP" with my DSL provider. But it only changes when I bounce the router, and then only some of the time. I signed up for one of teh free dynamic DNS services and my account kept getting closed because my IP never changed.

Coldy13
Gregs
Hornbm

and now some of us are back ;-) however i did lose much faith in the forum.

Funny thing is, www.nopistons.com hasnt said a THING about my signature and avatar, its been up there for twice as long as it has here!!

I disagreed with him and his behaviour, but didn't get into name calling or open flat out flaming, and 1) didn't get banned, 2) took it to the point where apparently he couldn't say anything back anymore.

The way I see it, it went out like this:

1. Robert posted the infamous thread
2. Somehow ErnieT got word and decided to bomb it
3. flame war followed
4. ErnieT used any excuse he could find to ban those he got in a war with.
5. Our mods came to the rescue and set things right.

Californians (and even Washingtonians) used to be so mellow. Ever since Arnold got in, they're having flame wars all the time. Terminator this and terminator that, sheesh. Hey, chill, soon Bush will be out of office an everything will be OK!

OK, I finally actually read the thead that is the source of all this commotion, thanks slashdawg and inittab. Looks like a spirited discussion about some high powered modifications to a real nice looking SA (OK, I didn't read ALL five pages) but certainly appropriate and nothing in there worth banning anyone from anything.

Of course the personal stuff has no place on a forum like this, folks should take up there issues someplace else.

And incidently, I blame Bush for everything that is going wrong in this country, including my ingrown toenail.
