Boy am I stupid!
Boy am I stupid!
Couple weeks ago all the idiot lights stayed on, so I researched and found out the alternator was dead, so I went on eBay and scored a used alt for $10. So far so good. New alt arrived. Then I lifted the hood (finally!) and noticed that the new alt has no builtin regulator, and the old one has (and that would probably be the problem). And then, what's this!? No alt belt!? Totally missing! Oops.
So I got a new belt from kragen for $10. Now I gotta fish it into place under all the accountrement. I need that car: gotta drive down to my condo and fix the copper water pipe I punctured while cutting out old wallboard. All the time thinking"ya know, I oughta cut that jigsaw blade down to 1inch to avoid puncturing a water pipe". Oh.

The easy way to put the alternator belt on for ME was...
Loosen the screw bolt on the left side of the alternator, then nut and bolt on the right side of the alternator (the one with the bolt).
Push the alternator down.
Then, start to pull the belt over each of the fan blades...it makes it easier if you slowly turn the fan, until you get the belt around each blade.
Then, the belt just gets set in each corresponding pulley.
Pull up on the alternator, and tighten one bolt to keep it tight. Then, Tighten up the other, and you're set.
Now that I've thought about it.....I dont have the belt on for my A/C compressor, or the Air Pump......so, I dont know how you do the belts when you still have those hooked up.

I think we've all had a string of bad luck like that before.

Found out the next month when I bought another one that I can get one used for $25 instead of new for $200.
