Thumbs down Bonez 13b intake problems

Hey,
Does anyone have this kit on their car? The instructions that came with it completely suck!

First, there was no gasket for between the afm and the new "velocity inlet", so I made my own. Now, the installation of their new cheap-*** overflow bottle has got me wondering how it's supposed to hold the tank straight. The surface they say to mount the bracket to is curved, and won't hold the bracket straight!

The picture of the kit on their website doesn't even use the new bottle, so I'm stumped as to what to do here. If I had a decent picture, it would certainly help...

Can anybody help me out? I've tried calling Rotary Performance in TX (where I bought it), and they act like I must be some kind of idiot or something

Yeah man, i ran it for like 8 months, and now that you've already bought it, im going to tell you your worst nightmare:

you wasted your money. You can buy the EXACT same thing on e-bay for $20 shipped to your door. However, they are only listed for 2nd gens. It will work JUST FINE for our gsl-se's. You may need to enlarge or relocate the bolt holes, but it should be exactly the same. Do a search for RX-7 filter or something. (i learned this the hard way, dont worry)

Now, back to your question: here is a pic of my old setup, if this helps any:

I used their relocation bracket and attached it to the back wall part of the headlight cover. I made sure the screws werent touching the headlights when they came down, and it seems to work PERFECTLY. its also going to be great for my tii swap, it gives me that much extra room there.

Hope all this helps!
~Geoff

Thanks!

In your pics, it looks like you used the factory recovery tank, not the one included with the kit, how did you hold that down?

hm. Hey could you do me a favor and take a pic of everything you got with your kit? It seems you got a different kit than mine. Yeah thast factory, i used two screws and drilled through the wall seperating the engine bay from the flip-light bay. the screws just go through the normal bracket and hold the bottle.

Take pics of everything you got and i can figure it out.

Thanks
~Geoff

Talking OK, OK!

Here's the picture of it.

The afm on the left has the inlet and the bracket already installed-the flat bracket is supposed to hold the recovery tank, but I don't see a flat surface to mount it on that would hold the tank...

Whoa man thats way different than mine. Mine came w/ a bracket that replaced the stock mount tank, w/ that arm on it to hold the AFM. they then gave me ANOTHER bracket to re=locate the stock overflow. damn, i have no clue about your setup, sorry man!!!!

What i would maybe suggest is finding a bone yard, getting another stock bracket, and relocating the stock unit instead of using theirs. i have NO CLUE what they expect you to do with that.

Try contacting RP and askin them what the dillyo yo is.

Oh, hey, i might be able to hook you up with my old brackets, as i'm not using that system really any more. what do you think?

PM me.

And btw, that sticker adds about 30 hp if propperly placed. right below the right front "RX-7" italics logo, beneath the black strip, is optimal positioning. i calculated that through precise dyno testing.

That stupid flat bracket has to be pushed into the tank holder before it can be bent to be mounted anywhere...

I guess I better call RP again...
