body kit mounting
body kit mounting
I've got a polyurethane three peace front lip, and I'm trying to find out the best way to mount it. Is it usually done with screws all the way around and then bondow to cover the screws, or is there some type of adhesive used to attach it.
I can get pictures tomorrow if you guys need it

a 3 piece front airdam ??? well without any more info my first choice would be to 'pop' rivot the pieces together, then to the car. and to hide the rivots for a cleaner installation use counter sunk rivots then bondo, then paint. IMO

that looks easy enough. first, does the center section fit over the bumper skin or not. but the center should mount first then the sides. with those tabs it's either screws,nut/bolt,rivot. i wouldn't try to glue it together. if i did,,i would drill 3-4 holes, not real big through both pieces and use some kick-*** epoxy and make sure the glue is forced out of the holes with a clamp. you know the holes give the glue something to grab on to. but it looks like the seam will be visable still.. yeah thats a cool front end. i'd use rivots..IMO
What's IMSA??
I was thinking of riviting the sides to the front peace, and then screwing it on as one peace. I'm hoping I can get some flat headed screws and then maybe just paint the heads of the screws so I wont have to paint the whole thing again.

IMSA is/was a type of racing class the rx7 used to race , in it's hey-day. so do you know if you have to remove the bumper skin from the bumper first or does it fit right over it. you might check it out. flat head screws would work. you might look for areas that are not to visable on the outside to mount. how heavy is the piece ?
hey I have that exact one!
I attached it with screws and nuts. I didnt use sheetmetal screws. to keep the look clean I used plastic caps that you can find in the screw and bolt section in your hardware store.
the liscense plate bracket will not fit the way it currently sits, but with some creative usage you can get it to work. there is some 3M tape you can buy at a pro paint shop that will ket it secure along with the mounting.
of course I may have done parts of this wrong, but it has worked for me for a year now.

the side peices should wrap around inside the wheel well, use screws there, it should also attach under where your front valance and "engine drip/catch pan" (i have no idea what that thing is called) that's how mine's on there and it is extremely sturdy. pics are at http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/440144 hope it helps, if not well i tried!
it goes part way over the bumper, it has two cut outs that slip into the two front corner lights just below the headlights. it's not too heavy but it's going to take some work to make sure it's solid.
