Blue Smoke:Please Help

Alright, my car runs perfect. I thought my 83 ran perfect, but driving my 80 now, I realized that my 83 was a pile. But there is one problem:

When I let off the gas at high RPM, blue smoke comes out of the tail pipe.

When I shift real hard, blue smoke comes out of the tail pipe.

At least I think its blue, becasue my rear window is tinted. But anyway there is some sort of smoke.

The only thing that I dont understand is that the car runs like a charm. Please help!

Hmmm...

I would guess it's your tint that makes it look blue.

You probably only see it when you let off the gas, because it's not pushed quickly from the air flow when you accelerate.

I can't say mine blows smoke....but then again, my exhaust doesn't let out in the rear of my car for me to see if it does.

I know a piston engine will smoke like that when you burn your oil rings....I don't know if a rotary will smoke in a similar fashion.

Sure you're not just running rich?

when you coast it will make a slighty rich condition worse (thats why the anti-afterburn leans out the motor some)

you should adjust the mixture a touch leaner

Your apex seals and/or oil seals may be beginng to die

I said they may be showing wear. If they are broken or stuck then you would be noticing serious problems. I'm not saying it IS the apex seals...it's just something you have to consider whether you damn well like it or not!

Nah, its a 5 spd.

And I wasnt saying it absolutely not the APEX seals, but I just dont understand it why it would only do it at high RPMs driving, and not in my driveway!

I didn't think the 80 had a coasting valve- wasn't that first installed on 81s?

I figured out the problem! At that of RPM's the oil injectors are running at max. So not not as much fuel and air is going in. So a lot of oil is being burnt!

When the oil control rings on the sides of the rotors get old, they'll sometimes allow a little oil to pass, especially during a high-vacuum condition like when you let off the gas after hard acceleration.

Mine blows blue smoke, but I also just mixed a bit to much oil with my pre-mix hehe.

Because when you are driving you are putting a load on the engine and it is working harder than when you are just revving it in your driveway. The vacuum on deceleration is also much higher.
