All i can say is jibco team had some fast as hell pit times. We looked like chickens with no heads.

Your guess is as good as mine. 30 year old seals allow for a big puff under almost every big vacuum event. 3 puffs per lap equals roughly 1200+ smoke clouds in the event. We put a quart or so in with every fueling.

To get in and out quick, we needed all 4 guys in nomex over the wall. I guess it paid off pretty well. We would have kept 4th if we hadn't tried to squeeze in one more change, but we wanted to be fair to all our drivers.

Thanks again for the help, the knowledge around here is a great asset to 1st gen n00bs.

Here is our on-board video clips. Check out our horrible "wonder" steering. We'll replace the idler arm and maybe adjust the box lash soon.

While you are reading here... There is an 85 with rear discs in a local salvage yard. It is not a GSL-SE. Could it still have an LSD? Would it still be 4x110? Would the flange on that diff match our shaft or is it a larger pattern? Thanks.

jidco. Was that the one at the pull and pay in denver that you were looking at? If so then that is the one that I now have in my garage.

Okay, blowing smoke when you let off at high rpms is due to worn oil control rings. My last motor left smoke screens that would make James Bond green with envy. I found a way to control this issue without a rebuild, and got another 20K miles out of it before it coughed up an apex seal at 213,000 miles. Replace one or possibly two quarts of oil with Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. The stuff is great, and I still use it with my new motor just for the added benefits.

For the sloppy steering, once you get the loose parts taken care of check out my post in this thread for a very easy adjustment procedure (maybe not as perfect as Felix's writeup, but a hell of a lot easier). https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...steering+grind

We are in Denver. I'm in Littleton, Iceman and the car are in arvada. The 85 I referred to is at another yard on Santefe, we are inspecting in the AM.

Ken, I've seen that box adjustment thread, and plan to try it, thanks. you also confirm our thoughts on the oil rings. We had a bottle of lucas in there to help some, but it didn't do a whole lot. We even changed our case vent setup to lower the Delta-pressure as much as we could. The clouds were manageable, but hilarious.

Check out our picture in this article. He caught it mid-spew.

Went and robbed the '85 at Colorado Auto Wrecking off of Santa Fe and Radcliff today. Front end collision damage likely caused the salvage but the rest of the car was in great shape! We got the rear disc/LSD diff/driveshaft and decided to take a chance on the motor and transmission because they both looked like they were freshly rebuilt.

Anyone looking for pristine interior pieces should go check this bad boy out.

The LeMon rides again! We have our application filled out for the Reno 24 Hours of Lemons Race. Should find out Monday if we are in.

Any chance you might have the incorrect dipstick? Just asking because, the way I blew my oil control rings was by over filling the crank case one time (bad info in Hayne's manual).

The 80 (blown) and 79 (smokey , currently installed) engines have their respective dipsticks. I don't believe there was ever an overfill event. The 79 engine was smokey as soon as we got it running, so I assume it's just tired, or we got it with damaged control rings.

I got the new 85 lsd rearend in the car, but the soft brake line from chassis to axle has a different thread pitch. Is there some rule of thumb about what year they changed the pitch from x1.125 to x1.25mm or whatever the difference is?

The shifter on the S3 trans that we just got seems to be a bit further rearward (the whole tail section is different than our old junk). Will this be a problem coming up through the tunnel? Any other surprises going from our 30 year old stuff to this S3 motor/trans? It appears to be in great shape.

Also, is it cool if we use this thread for continued discussion or would you guys prefer we start a new one when appropriate? I'm searching and reading, but some specifics seem tough to nail down. Moderator change title to LeMons idiot tech support? Thanks, guys.

We entered our 7 in a local cheap car race. Like lemons, but more types of racing, not endurance. Drag, oval, road race, and rallycross. It was a good time.
