Blown motor?

Well I was turning a corner tonight, and all of a sudden my car just got this weird loud sound and just basically lost most of its power.. I could still get the car up to speeds but I had to hold the choke in or else it would die, it wouldnt idle....it almost felt as if the car was running on one rotor but I wouldnt know. I had just bought gas if that could have had any affect, and im sure it wasnt diesel or anything so I dont know but im just hoping it wasnt fatal....I managed to drive it home holding the choke most of the way, and then I got out to make sure all the plug wires were connected and snug and they were. What does it feel like to have a blown motor...Is this anything like it. Mycar has 215 000 kms on it but im just hoping this can be fixed.

Must do a compression check to confirm.

I find it odd that you needed the choke. You sure one of your floats didn't get stuck down or something?

The blown engines I've experienced shake like crazy at idle, have no power and some had grinding noises internally, eww.

Well. Shes done, rear rotors blown but Im not too worried, It was time and this isnt gonna stop me. Sooon enough Itll be back in full force. Now I just need to find a motor to pop in her. Just the thought of cranking her up with a fresh engine keeps me going, but until then im RXless.

Why not just replace the apex seals? I would think it's cheaper than buying a new/used motor, unless you already have one or know where you can get a cheap one.

Or, unless you're going to go bigger

I was pricing a seal kit (I was in a situation like this one early this summer) and I found it to be around $2000 after I bought all the special tools and gaskets, etc. A rebuilt 13B from Atkins was $2500 with shipping (and $450 of that you get back from the core charge). I am not exactly an idiot with tools, but I saw that the rebuilt motor would save me a lot of stress. Maybe you guys have some ways to get apex seals cheaply, but all the kits I saw were near the price of a rebuilt motor.

Hopefully, a friend of mine up here has a good motor he can sell me for cheap so Im hoping it wont come to buying from Mazdatrix, because right now I just dont have the money and I want to get her back on the road quick. Im buying it from a prety knowledgable guy whos gonna get it running for a few hours and check the compression and for any oil leaks, but what else should I look out for? I know that you really dont want oil to leak at the top of the front housing, but other than that and its compression what else should I look out for buying this used motor? Any input/ horror stories would be cool, as I want this to be a good experiance. Thanks.
