Bitting the bullet, going carb

Well my attempts at EFI were well thought , but there are things about the project that just make it impossible to do. Currently I'm looking at a possibly damaged ECU (would explain alot of things) And damaged wire in the wiring harness. I've got more gremlins in the system than I know what to do with.

Anyway this car is supposed to be my daily driver starting in november, so I have got to look at my practical options here.

I'm going to swallow my pride and go carb. No I need something that I can slap on with a minimal ammount of tuning.

I was looking at a Racing Beat holley setup, or possibly a webber setup. My engine is a stock port S4 6 port 13B. What kind of carb setup would you guys recommend?

Also for fuel, I was just figureing that I could throw a fuel pressure regulator on my GSL-SE fuel pump and that would work for the fuel system.

DO NOT use the -SE fuel pump. the pressure will be too high even with a regulator. Carbs work on about 6psi as apposed to about 40psi for fuel injection. Get a fuel pump from your local auto parts store. I would suggest a holley high flow fuel pump and pressure regulator to supply the carb with enough fuel. IMO, weber is the way to go.

go with the weber. the holly only makes 10 more hp after 7500rpm. the weber makes more hp through the rpm range before 7500 rpm. more useful hp.

obviously you KNOW NOTHING!!!

the SE fuel pump will work fine with a mallory#4309 return style regulator.
he will be able to turn down the fuel pressure to 2 psi if he wants!!!

why spend money on something you dont need???
im sorry to hear the efi didnt work out , but i would LOVE to set you up with a nice WEBER 48 setup!!!!

Hi Rob,

That return regulator looks do-able but @ $75.00 and underutilizing the fuel pump, returning lots of gas back to the tank I'm not sure that's the way I'd go. Thirty bucks more he can get a brand new Holley Blue fuel 110 fuel pump and a new fuel pressure regulator.

I am sure he was just joking..

However, 680 is 100% correct on this.

Hornbm, I thought you were going Haltech anyway?

Edit: Whoops, for some reason I just assumed he was going turbo

I'm using the Mallory pressure regulator and a Porsche 911 Turbo fuel pump on my carb'd turbo setup, and it works great. The -SE pump and mallroy regulator would work fine for you.

yes the holley pump will work, but the SE fuel pump will flow triple the holley pump, and its much quieter! Also wich one do you think would last longer? a cheap holley pump or a original equipment part?

last but not least, would it be easier to change the pump and add a regulator or just add a regulator?

I hate it when gas gets in your armpits!!! it burns bad

No no no, that was paul aber who went with haltech. The stock ECU was why my project was so crazy to begin with. A haltech costs more than the carb setup right out of the gate. Then you have to count all the time to get the thing tuned right. I saw my buddy's holley carbed FC, and that thing is SWEET. But I would like to go weber tho.

I think a new holley fuel pump would last longer than a 20 year old one but that's just me. Just installing a regulator is certainly easier than putting a pump it but for only thirty bucks more . . . Never had gas in the armpits, I bet that hurts! It does burn in the eyes and tastes terrible when siphoning!

Some peoples use the rubber anti-vibration mounts from MSD 6AL's to mount their fuel pumps. Significantly reduces noice & vibe. A buddy mounted his inside a metal box but of course to each their own method of madness! I liked hearing my fuel pump, that way I knew it was on. And with over 105dba on the bridgeport now I can't even hear myself breathe!

And other people use 1/2 the stock mounting plate, and a metal band clamp to mount their pump Not that I did that or anything.....
