BIG PROBLEM carburator issue
first off my car is an 82. soo... i put my "rebuilt" (apparently i'm not that good at it) carby on and connected all the lines, except for what i think is the hot start assist fluid delivery line becuase i couldn't find where it went. that could be the issue anyways. so i put some fuel in the tank and turned the ignition on to fill the float bowls, and after a second the gas didn't stop and basically filled the carb. i thought the gas would stop when the float bowls filled up, but wtf??? is there a vaccum problem, like is it just sucking gas through for some reason? please help me!!!!

i just had a similar problem, mine wasn't that bad though, it stopped after i had it running for a bit, i don't know where the thread is now, but a previous thread mentioned that the new needle and seat that come with the rebuild kit have a matte finish on them, once that finish has worn away they will seal.

so should i just keep on letting it flood untill the gas stops? i'm sure that i got everything back in the correct place, i put it back together with the manual by my side. should gas sitting in it take off that matt finish quickly? it ran really shitty for about 5 seconds and then i couldn't start it anymore b/c the batt died. also it smelled a bit electrical in the engine bay after i tried to get it running. thanks for all the help.

if you can get it running, then just let it run till it reaches operating temp, if it still flooding in after that, then i'd pull the top off the carb, and recheck that you have everything in the right way, another thing is check the one way valve in the return line, its the little metal bullet thing spliced in about 4 or 5" back from the carb on the line.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Take the top hat off and make sure the float pins aren't stuck on something. The reason it's filling up with gas is because the floats aren't working properly. Take the hat off, and push the floats. If they move, make sure nothing binds when the hat is secured. Usually when one of my carbs does that just taking the hat off and putting it back on will cure whatever it was that was wrong.

I don't think i could be happier! Apparently letting the carb sit overnight with gas in it wears off the finish just fine. I tapped over the needles and seats a couple times, hooked the cables up to my truck to jump it, and it started on the first turn! ran like **** for a little while but smoothed out. got her all warmed up and took it for a spin around the lot (not enough room) and so far the mech. secondaries feel great. i had some horrible white smoke coming out of the tailpipe for about 10 minutes untill it warmed up, but it didn't smell sweet like coolant. after i opened it up the smoke dissapeared and didn't come back even when i started it again when it was hot. so hopefully all is well, now i just have to wait for this damn snow to melt. thanks again to everyone who provided input!
