best tip for good mileage is keep your foot out of it...or get a honda as a 2nd car. thats what alot of guys on the forum do if they want good gas mileage

but if you wanted to get your rx7 to have better mpg you would want to get a free flowing exhaust, take off all the stuff you dont need ex. smog pump/ac/ps also switch to the 2nd gen drect fire and get good coils...then after you do all this your car will have more power but it will be better on gas if you can keep your foot out of it and keep it under 4k

cheers PaTricK

Right now I average 17 to 18 mpg. I don't know if it's good but hey it's not too bad. I have a racing beat header, straight pipe and racing beat muffler. No emissions, electronic ignition but I am going to do a 2nd gen coil conversion because I have 2 MSDs on my other 79 and one in my RX-3. I don't feel like spending money on another MSD. Another thing that hurts my gas mileage is that my 79 is a four speed so I am usually revving up high. Doing 80 in the highway constant doesn't help either.

there are many things that contribute, or reduce fuel mileage. some are not always obvious.

As mentioned, getting rid of the cats and a good free flowing exhaust, including headers, is a start. Full tune up, carb rebuilt and set properly, elimination of parasitic accessories, ac, ps, air pump and stock clutch fan.

That covers most of the driven areas. The other areas are drag ones. A good alignment, proper tire pressures, brake system check for dragging brakes, proper wheel bearing torque and fresh lubes in the tranny and diff.

After that, weight reduction, which becomes an issue of what one is willing to do without.

Even if one does all of the above, it's the foot that makes the biggest difference.
