Which is better????

i have a 13B in my 84 gslse. I want to turbo it. Would it be better to just buy the TII engine and tranny, or turbo my current 13B? The engine has 126,000 miles on it, and it is carb. (Did not know they made 13B carb motors). Also, my shifter pops out the tranny when i shift, and it grinds when i shift in reverse. When it pops out while driving, i have to put it in neutral and punch the stupid thing back into the tranny in order to shift . So what could that be?? Any help would be cool. Thanks.

Mazda didn't offer a carbureted version of the 13B in GSL-SEs. If your motor is carbureted, either somebody replaced the EFI with a carb or swapped the whole motor, or maybe your car's not a real GSL-SE -- do you know for sure?

The reason it matters is that a real GSL-SE has a sump cup in the fuel tank, which is highly desirable to prevent fuel starvation.

Regardless which car/engine you have, I'll tell you what I decided to do -- I got a used J-spec 13B Cosmo motor. I was able to sell enough parts off it that it didn't end up costing me much money in the end.

well my car says gsl-se and it has rear brakes, not drums. The engine says 13B on it but it had a racing beat intake manifold with dual carbs on top. I thought it was odd. Anyway, i will probably do that. i am having a hard time finding an engine with a wiring harness. There are many with a CUT harness, but i cant find any with a non cut wiring harness.

The RB manifold and carbs are worth some cash.

The shifting problem is the shifter bushings. www.mazdatrix.com has a good writeup on how to fix it, plus you can buy the parts from them too.

I would reccomend running a tII with a microtech. Then you do not have to worry about the harness. Just make sure that it has the sensors still...

Or you could just turbo the SE motor. There is a write up on a site somewhere. Search here I think that there was a thread on it quite some time ago.

This question is almost impossible to answer, you need to let us know what you want to achieve, what hp do you want, are you racing the car, is it for street, show, drag, curcuit? Is your engine 4 or 6 port. Personally I love the old 4 ports.

GSL FBs had the rear disc brakes also. Check the engine number to see if it's original.

$0.02 more: If you're planning to increase torque much over stock -- and most people who want to go turbo do -- you'll want to upgrade to a turbo trans, so I wouldn't bother fixing the one you have.

OR

As one other member posted, he's gone around collecting FB trannys and has them stacked up like cord wood, ready for parts to start flying.
