Bearing Help!!!!!!

I am trying to put my bearing on and the rear bearing will not fit on the spindle. i have an 1984 gslse, but the drivers side spindle (the one giving me all the trouble) is from an 85 gslse. are the bearing diameters different?? when i took the brake back off to check out why there was about a half inch gap from the rotor to the rear housing, the rear bearing was stuck on the spindle. i had to really pull hard to get it off. the bearings are for an 84 gslse. do i need to get an 85 gslse rear bearing for that side??? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! thanks guys/gals.

what's the he bearing you are using? make sure, when you go into your local store, that you have the right part numbers as they differed between different chassis numbers. for earlier ones it is part number 1237 and the newer ones it is 1359 or something..

i see, yea the bearing i bought was for a 1984 gslse. since then, i got a new strut assembly for the drivers side off a 1985 gslse. but the bearing i tried to put on was made for a 1984. i thought both years would be made the same and therefore use the same bearing.

All of the 84's and 85's used the same bearings. The parts store probably sold you a bearing for a 79-83.

If you check your owners manual you will see that your rear bearings are pressed onto you rear "Axles" not spindles, with a few tonnes of pressure. So unless you have somekinda "superhuman" strength your not gonna get them fully seated yourself.

Just a heads up

Front wheel bearings that go on front strut spindles are referred to as "Inside" and "Outside." You have to use the right words when you talk to the parts man.

Are you 100% sure about what car your junk yard struts came from? Did you actually pull them from that car youself, or did the junkyard man hand them to you?

i got the strut from JerryPerez from the forum. he said it was from an 85 gslse. when i installed the strut assembly, everything hooked up right. all but the inside bearing. its about a quarter inch off, which makes the brakes not fit on the rotor with pads.

all 84-85 spindles are the same. GS, GSL, GSLSE. the 79-83 are smaller so that cant be the problem. check to make sure the spindle isnt bent. also, try this. pull everything off the other side. try to put the new bearing on the other side. if it fits, youll know its the spindle, not the bearing. when doing so also try to fit he bearing from that side onto the new side. if it works then you know its the bearing and not the spindle.

checked the spindle, it is not bent. do you think if i got an 86 bearing that it would fit better?? i mean, i dont know what else to do except grind the spindle down a little bit so the bearing can fit better. any ideas???

I'd do what AWS140 says above. Try it on the other side and see if it fits. Don't grind the spindle to make it fit!

well i found out the problem. there is a ring on the spindle that the hub of the rotor is supposed to go in between, right where you put the oil seal. well the bottom of the ring was bent which prevented the rotor from going on all the way. as far as the bearing goes, i went back and got ANOTHER bearing cuz i took the passenger one off and it fit fine. well i guess they sold me 2 wrong bearings. the third bearing fit perfect and i was able to finish the job. thanks you guys for all your help!
