battery relocation questions
I have a few questions for all of you who have relocated your battery. I plan on moving it to the passenger side storage bin to balance weight, clean up the engine bay, get it close to my amp, and to be cool of course.
Is it best to buy a kit like the ones from Summit or Taylor?
Where did you run the positive wire? Under the car? Through the car?
How difficult is it to wire to the starter? I dont have alot of experience, though I can solder. Will I need to?
Where did you ground it?
and lastly to the guys running Optimas, which one should I get?

There is nothing special to wire to the starter. The only thing that you will have to modify is the power supply lead wire that goes to your fusable link pedastel in the engine compartment. You are going to just run your cable from the battery to the starter but from a different location. I recommend running the cable across to the driverside storage compartment and then drilling thru the bottom of the floor board. I would run a rubber grommet thru the floorboard and then the cable thru that. As far as the negative cable goes you can drill the hole thru the passenger floorboard and do the same thing and run the cable to one of the trans mounting bolts for your ground. The power lead that usually runs off the positive cable to the fusable links can be run from the attaching point of the positive cable at the starter back to the fusable link pedestal but run atleast a 10 gauge wire to it. This is just one of probably many examples of how it can be done. I'm sure that others have probably done very trick installs. Do a search on the subject if no one else chimes in.
Forgot. As far as your battery tray to secure the battery. You can pick up universal ones at any parts store. Drill and secure it thru the floorboard. Use your plastic protector from your existing location to put on top of it. Just make sure that it is very secure in it's mounting.
Another spot you can run your negative battery cable thru is along the seat (passenger) top area under the carpet and remove the heat sensor for the cat if you have one and go straight thru there.

I used the Taylor 2 gauge kit from Sumitt. Make sure you use the kit with the flexable wire, not that stiff stuff.. I ran my wire down the passenger side then up the firewall and through a special firewall grommet.
from partsexpress ($6). The wire goes directly to the starter, then to my 2nd gen fuse box then to the alternator. Yours will be dfferent since you still have your fuseable links, but the same path. I cleaned a real nice spot on the cross member next to the battery for the ground. Use the same size wire you are running up front, I used 2 gauge.

Welding wire -- it's cheap, has a tough cover, and has very fine strands so it's flexible.
Also, I'm running the Aerospace Components billet battery hold-down. Nice piece that holds securely.
