Anyone looking for a nice fb. This car has everything already done to it but body needs a little attention. I built everything on this car top to bottom. New everything no expense spared. Fast car. With factory rear seats. 13b four port street ported, new housings. S4 rotating assembly, Ida Weber, runs flawless. Miata trans. GSL axle, t3 panhard, bc coil overs, every part under the car and in engine bay was redone. Cleaned and refinish whole suspension, new masters, slave, koyo, all done within last 5k miles. Not a perfect body, but shes a runner.
Clean looking respray on the exterior, a bit chaotic looking in the bay, straight exhaust pipe to the muffler. Extensive list of items in the service history, but it's presented as a single invoice, no detail. It mentions the cat being replaced although that's missing :P
It shot up to $9999 with 7 days to go! I don't get the enthusiasm for it with the current presentation.
Reserve not met at $12,250. Market has cooled, fewer bidders. This seemed like a well sorted example but no driving video, cold start, compression, etc. might have held people back.

That price is more than this car is worth. I can understand why folks didn't bid on this one.
That Sonic Bronze car is absolutely stunning!!! That would be an awesome car to buy!
I am the new owner of the 79 Sonic Bronze. It was in the ownership of another Forum member here for some time and then owned by a collector for a few years before I bought it. I have been a VW guy for quite a long time but had been wanting a Japanese legend for a while and finally decided to move on from my 63VW. I had been looking for something for quite some time, but most stuff I would go look at would turn would be "rough" or the stuff on the auction sites that seemed worth the risk would go to all the deep pockets out there. I was actually a little shocked when I won that bid as I thought 13.5 was as far as I wanted to go and I thought just for the heck of it I'll go another $250; thinking this thing was going to get closer to 15k. Really love this SA, it's completely stock, original and the interior is mint as well as the car only has 46k on it. It also has the original window sticker, maintenance book with Mazda service stamps & original receipts from regular maintenance for a good chunk of its life. Cost wise; not sure if I overpaid slightly but honestly with the condition, original documentation, low mileage etc I feel it was worth it. And im not a flipper, so im not looking to turn around and try and make $ off of it like so many on BAT seem to be trying to do.
Welcome to the SA club. I think you got a great deal. It could have easily gone for way more. That vintage interior really had problems with longevity, very prone to deterioration if exposed to sunlight. Very nice indeed!

That's quite a price considering it has 87K miles on it.
Considering the recent slump in the market overall, I thought the same thing. Just a case of the "resale red" effect, or maybe a sign of a more upbeat attitude ahead this year? Really, a lot of times, sales can just be head scratchers. As unpredictable as people themselves.
The seller for the Sonic Bronze car (911r) makes a living from selling cars on BaT. He has over 1,900 auctions to date and hosted a BaT event last year at his shop. He has his auction system down. Yes, the pictures are very professional but studio shots can and often are tweaked for effect. It would be nice to see at least a couple outdoor pictures of the car too.
The last few receipts made me shake my head. They show charges for things like detailing the car and diagnosing problems. His company did the work for his company in preparation for the sale. Did he charge and pay himself? One is a compression check for $185.00 and looks to have been done with a piston compression gauge. They got a reading of 90 for the front and 80 for the rear. Those numbers are supposed to be good? The car looks very nice but it also has a few surprising errors that raises some questions in my mind.
The seeming glut of RX7's for sale this year, along with a softening market definitely played a part in my hanging on to my GSL-SE for a few more years. That, and the fact that a thirty-year relationship is hard to walk away from however, seeing my dream "old-man" sports car sell "no reserve" last month did make me a little sad. Wished I had a three car garage. :-)
I HAVE a 3 car, tandem garage and wish I had a 4 car, side-by-side! It's never enough space, and I'm looking into 4-post lift as a stacker for the 63 Stingray...

Good to see strong interest in nice cars but the selling norm is still about half that much for more common condition vehicles. There was a recent surprise sale on BaT of $37,500 for a 16K mile 80 SA in a very rare Indy Maroon color (Y6). Came down to two bidders who refused to give in, which sometimes throws all usual common sense out the window. It is a very nice example. Personally, I love the color but not a big fan of maroon interiors.
