Ballistic Jacket / Shield

Finally Rohan Ambrose from Guru Racing has developed a Kevlar ballistic jacket especially for Rotary Bell Housings. I have tried for a couple of years to get something that can fit into my engine bay as I have mounted the engine so far back. the product is great and at $395 AUD a bloddy good price.

2 years ago I had a pressure plate that exploded and are I darn lucky, now I feel much better with a ballistic jacket that is specifically made for the Rotary this fits properly!

Also some good shots now on the site of Rohan's car

I was just mentioned the risks involved with exploding trannies by a friend of mine. He has seen folks with severed legs from flywheel pieces (in RX-7s!!!)

Thanks for the info.

Hi, yep can be real dangerous! I was very lucky the explosion went downwards! It almost totally destroyed my car! Cut my electrics, brake lines let alone put the starter motor through my fuel tank just to add to the fun.

i think he meant 8500. and i wouldn't see it as a problem below there either. otherwise mazda would be forking out $$$$$ in settlements.

guys that happens all the time you don't need to overrev...

Actually let me edit this...all the time the clutch flywheel is stressed out from abuse. Or somebody messed up a lightened flywheel or a bolt gets loose etc...a mistake of some kind..

It exploded at about 9,000 rpm, I had just had some work done and the flywheel and pressure plate replaced. The pressure plate turned out to be cast rather than steel!

Be careful to say 'should never happen', things unplanned always happen! And I would rather keep my legs and feet, because it does happen!

Sh__ I spend so much making my car go quick, a small amount on saftey I think is well worth it, but other people have different priorities, that is cool!
