bad exhaust??

okay so im driving to work this morning, i have an 84 gsl-se with a weber 45dcoe side draft on it.. and im trying to top it out on the interstate, so i put it in 4th and get to about 5 grand when it starts to buck and stutter like its getting bad gas... okay so im like wow! my fuel pressure regulator sucks anyway, so im going to buy a new one! so i buy a holley 4.5 to 9psi regulator, throw it on, and still nothing, it runs and idles FINE but for some reason it doesnt rev as fast, and takes it for ever for the rpms to drop... so i drive it home tonite. it revs good till about 3k, and when i got home, the 3rd cat was glowing at the outlet... so im guessing the exhaust is bad... any suggestions before i yank it out?

cat is clogged, or ur running lean would be my only 2 assumptions. And the running lean isnt likely to make the cat glow, thatl just make ur exhaust hotter as well as your engine temp for obvious reasons
